pretty sure they said that this was something they are hoping to aim for. i might be wrong. it might just seem a bit too obvious that I might just imagining that.
Either way, Implementing something like that isn’t as simple as it sounds.
Would be really cool though.
Can’t just suggest something and walk away from it like that as if you believe it is the all-saving-grace decision. It’s not.
They’re working on a better trade in system, and adding an economy to cobalts right now is NOT the way to go.
I don’t know why everyone wants this so much. It would just be abused by making a new account, getting it to lvl 4 (which can be achieved in under an hour) and buying a shitton of cases with the lvl up bonus. Won’t take more than a week for cobalts to hit a price under $5 which will make it pretty much impossible for SD to make a profit off DB.
Steam market integration would be an insanely bad decision from SD. No idea why they would ever want to do it unless more cosmetics (that are not available to buy with in-game currency) will be released.

Fair point, can’t argue with that.
MissMurder confirmed in the stream that this was something they were looking to implement. They could always put limits on what level you are/how old your account is for steam trading. It’s still long way off in any case.
The Steam Community Market already comes with a paywall and a timewall: you need to have a valid Steam purchase between 30 days and a year old to be allowed to trade. So you would have to create a new account, farm your credits for cases, get mostly worthless Lead cards, maybe trade up to a Gold if you’re lucky, make a legitimate purchase on Steam, then wait a month before you can even put your stuff up for sale.
Farming accounts doesn’t sound so attractive in that context, and it could be made even less by adding further restrictions to trade entry: time played, level, minimal purchase on DB itself, maybe even a “trade permit” you have to buy.
@Djiesse <- what he said before. Creating other accounts is not a viable thing unless you want to spend 5$ everytime and wait all that time…i’de rather buy myself some elite cases with that money…
They did say they’re aiming to implement it at some point so why not save resources with that crappy trade-in system that nobody uses/likes and start working on that instead? I mean…they’ll still make money from it as the developer takes a cut on every transaction…they’ll be making money from the people that buy the cases + small fee over maket transactions…I know some people might start buying less cases but as a counter-part a lot more “free” players will start putting some change together for some market purchases, eventually making them a more steady income…I think…
Hitting level 4 gets you 24k bonus credits. Call it 30k credits if you take advantage of missions/other bonuses. If you burn it all on cases, you have a 36% chance of getting a silver, an 11% chance of getting a gold, and a 3% chance of getting a cobalt.
If you buy 22 cases, there’s a decent chance you will end up with something like 18 leads, 3 irons, 1 bronze, and 8k credits. This is just enough to let you craft 1 silver.
A few hours of play for a silver loadout is still better than live, but then you have to deal with the difficulty of getting an account on the steam market. Overall, there’s no way that people will be farming new accounts for cases. You’d have to spend $5 on the account to get on the market anyway, and spending the $5 on a case will get you a better return. I guess you might be able to resell your $5 purchase and make back some of the money you spent, but you would still be waiting 30 days to save a couple of bucks. Farming new accounts won’t be common enough to make a difference.
Implementing a market isn’t the answer to this. There are other ways you could do it and I thought of one along with Lumi who added to it. I’ll leave a link if you want to go and have a read but I personally think the ideas in that thread are good enough to warrant discussion.

Keep your pants on cowboy, it’s coming. Even if I don’t like the idea of it, takes away the part of unique feel in the cards
