The solution to the 800x600 bug...
An extremely complicated way to do exactly the same as the .bat file. (It even requires the .NET framework!!! :banghead: )
I made an autoexec and put it in E.t main with the following commands:
seta r_detailtextures “1” //my default is 1
seta r_texturebits “32”
seta r_colorbits “32”
seta r_depthbits “24”
seta r_mode “7” //Screen res.
seta r_texturemode “gl_linear_mipmap_linear”
seta r_ext_compressed_textures “0”
Now even when my E.t goes back to default as soon as i load up it all resets back to how it should be \o/
If you’re running Windows 2000 or XP (I don’t know if this works in 98…), you can clear all profile.pid files without having to specify directories:
del \*YOUR ET FOLDER*\profile.pid /s /q
So if you have ET in program files then it looks like this:
del "\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\profile.pid" /s /q
Of course, you need always change this depending on where you launch the bat from. Damn, I miss DOS…sort of.
Kids these days…they don’t know the joys of DOS, BASIC or batch files…
Well… i am 33 and i wonder why i have to write a .bat file for a game that should be running fine as it is… and also wonder why the people responsible for it don’t follow up on those things by means of a patch or something…
I know ET is a free game… But still… these things are too complicated for the average user
Average user
Most of the users can play at 800*600 without a problem… but SOME! can’t
Sort of… makes sense
There’s always ETRun. Lightweight, fairly easy to use, and powerful. I’m thinking about adding a few other additional features for it as well so if anyone has a wishlist for ET loaders, let me know.
My problem occurs a little differently.
I usually play on a mod server that uses new maps all the time.
Since I already made a batch file, everything’s fine @ startup, but after a download
(which happens all the time) i get the lock right after the gamestate is received. drops to 800x600 and so on.
Where is the path set for these internal “restarts”? WOuld that even matter, since the system is not dropping back to a level where a dos script would be invoked?
It’s very annoying ands happens several times a day.
Thanks
That is another problem, and it is know but it cant be solved, because it needs an update of et.exe, wich splash isnt making, and bani cant make :)(nice sentence :/). It occurs after downloading a map or other file indeed, and et will crash.
My game browser doesn’t like .bat files, so I use this:

Any tricks discovered yet to stop that crash bug after downloading a large pk3?
Hi!
Maximus191 posted (in 2003):
seta r_mode “7” //Screen res.
What screen resolution is 7? And what number (5?) is 800x600?
Not urgent, just curious

A quick google search came up with this:
0=320x240, 1=400x300, 2=512x384, 3=640x480, 4=800x600, 5=960x720, 6=1024x768, 7=1152x864, 8=1280x1024, 9=1600x1200, 10=2048x1536
Those are for COD, but I assume they’re the same in RtCW/ET (I know that 3/4/6 are).
Ok, thanks. Excellent!
I just wonder: Why not have a autoexec file and in it write commands that say “set screensize 6” and “vid restart”? Wouldnt that solve the 600x800 bug?

r_mode is just one of several cvars that are reset whenever profile.pid is found. Any cvar in your config that has ‘unsafe’ after it in your .cfg will be reset. Deleting ‘unsafe’ is not sufficient, the game will re-add it.
No need for read-only. Just let the game crash, open ur etconfig.cfg, copy all lines ending “unsafe” to autoexec.cfg and delete the “unsafe” mark in it. Next time, the autoexec will override com_crashed error.
can i delete the files without the .bat and just add more to the target of the ET shortcut?
