The SMG question

(n-x) #1

I really enjoy playing SMGs (I am talking primary SMGs, see poll beneath) and have spent a lot of time with all of them except the SMG-9 and picking the “best” is kind of driving me mad.

I always was under the assumption that the Kek is the best, according to what I read. But I played a lot of Hochfir Phoenix because augment wise his best card comes with the Hochfir. Now, after months of playing Hochfir I wanted to switch back to the “best” SMG, just to read that apparently Crotzni was the best all along. I always shunned the Crotzni a bit, despite being the SMG with the highest damage output it had too much spray. Nonetheless, I tried it out and I am doing really fine. Now, after getting used to the Crotzni, I suddenly read Hochfir is the SMG to go.

With the Blishlok I have my moments with Aura, but on Bushwacker and Sawbonez I totally suck with that gun.

Here is the Link to the SMG entry in the DB Wiki so you can take a look at the stats:

So, what is in your opinion the best SMG and why?

Okay here is the thing: Every SMG is perfectly viable and you should use what you feel the most comfortable with.

i would really like a rifle on phantom instead of SMG…

(Brycko) #4

The others are perfectly viable, but the Hochfir is the only one that can really melt health consistently, + Fast reload time and big magazine

(Eox) #5

Second highest DPS with overall decent stats. Technically easier to use than crotzni and slightly more ranged. High RPM allows for easy headshots.

I don’t know…for efficiency…I like the Kek…but as much as it kinda sucks these days…I still love the SMG-9.

Kek just feels like a great all around weapon.

(AlbinMatt) #8

Less about the gun itself, just that a bunch of the great loadouts comes with it (CR81, Nader and Phoenix).

(hoyes) #9

The kek is like a better mk46 with a smaller mag. The mk46 is my favourite weapon, so this one cannot fall far from the tree.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #10

Crotzni is my favorite and for some reason most accurate.

Difficult to say which is best since mercs with very different stats have access to different SMGs.

I was hesitating between the crotzni and the KEK.
Picked the KEK in the end, because I find easier to land headshots with it close range - and that is the main purpose of the SMGs.
The crotzni is better at range, and I like the sound of it more.

To me, Blishlok has very controllable recoil despite its high recoil per shot, plus high damage, accuracy and a dot sight. It also looks great for a custom Thompson.
SMG9 is a close second with laser like accuracy, tying with Hochfir and Kek for me.
Crotzni, the gun that everybody raves about, is a strange one. I must be really bad at controlling its recoil since I can never hit a damn thing with it. And somehow I had some 8 hours with it.

With my terrible aim, the Hochfir’s low recoil and high ROF with dat mag make it the ideal weapon for a derp like yours truly.

Whoops miss tapped the pole. Meant to put kek just because the spread and ads recoil is better than the crotzni so it tends to be better at further ranges making it a bit more versatile. It also has a higher rof which means it has more annoying aimpunch. Overall, though, crotzni and kek are really close for me and it mostly depends on the situation, hochfir is a step down from those, then smg9, and then blish.

While it’s true that crotzni has alot more spread (than any other SMG), the difference is actually not that big.

@nokiII thx a lot. that is exactly what I was looking for

Yeah I totally agree. The difference in spread isnt that big but I still prefer just that little bit of extra consistency.

Here am I choosing the SMG-9 simply because I feel the most comfortable using it.

This is actually pretty big, 1 second shooting and it’s already 50% worse than Blish and Hoch.

Hmm I never used the hochfir cause an old teammate said it had super high spread and I don’t really play mercs that have access to it. Might have to give it a try now. This just makes me wonder even more why anybody would pick the smg9 if in the time it takes to usually get a kill, the spread difference between it and a crotzni is only like 20% at most. Especially since even if you whiff your first few shots you can just ads later in your spray. Is there any info on horizontal recoil while ads?
