Seriously, i hate this map so much it’s unbearable. This map needs a MAJOR fix or a complete removal at how bad it is. It’s far to easy to spawn camp people as defender and the attackers can do jack shit about it. It’s been an issue since god knows how long and they don’t care to fix it at all. So devs, either remove the map temporaryily and fix so it’s better balanced then 70% defend favored on first point when they can acess too much of the attacker area, garage camping, run into the spawn etc. Attackers cannot run into the Defending spawn on last point delivery why should the defenders be able to do that on first point? This map is what i feel the worst of all DB maps and i love this game but bad maps like Chapel can make a good mad into a hair tearing rage mood almost. So either remove the map or FIX it. It’s been reported all to many times and you never listen
The shit mess that is Chapel
I’ve seen spawn camping in all levels. I’d rather them build safe zones for spawnING that the aposing teams can’t enter than kill a map. Most of the time it’s OK but some time u get a team of jackasses that known they can’t win so they take u out before u can get 2 feet
Yeah, though Chapel is amongst the worst. The garage should be off limits to the defending team and make the spawn like Tf2 only your team can enter your spawn etc aswell as the tf2 auto balance. And maybe add a merc restriction maybe max 2 of one merc active. So they cannot spam moltov with Stoker for example.
Really? That’s the part you have a hard time with. Only time that’s really an issue is if the teams are so horribly imbalanced that the defenders can just bunker down. Usually that first part doesn’t even last two minutes cause it’s so easy for the attackers to get to the EV (will be even easier to do once we have Turtle. The part I have an issue with is the second part, actually moving the EV. The attackers spawns should be in the garage till they get it to the half way point, and the attackers spawn should be immediately moved to the halfway point (shouldn’t require to push it ten more meters just to get that spawn).
There are so many things that are wrong with this paragraph…
Chapel is definitely not the worst map for spawn camping - try Terminal or Underground if you want to see some serious spawn trapping. In fact…
…Chapel’s first stage is nowhere near as difficult for the attackers as Trainyard, Underground, Terminal or (especially) Bridge. I would actually say that it is the EASIEST first stage for attackers, not the hardest.
Most Dirty Bomb players enjoy Chapel, Underground and Terminal the most - and I draw this conclusion from the fact that whenever Chapel comes up in the votemap it almost always wins the vote - Chapel is NOT a “bad map”.
I’ve never seen anyone complain about Chapel in terms of spawn camping… However, I have seen people complaining that the EV escort missions as attackers in 8v8 games are a pain because the other team can always have at least one airstrike ready to go at all times, but that’s only in 8v8. Most people love this map. Could you give me a link to these threads where people apparently complain about Chapel?
But you have spawn protection… If they’re camping IN your spawn then you can just kill them while your shield is still up. Until you shoot (or until the timer runs out) you have a spawn shield which protects you from damage, like a Phantom’s shield would.

You also get 50% shield after you shoot, melee, or use an ability. I have many of times used that shield as a bullet sponge to get in close.
Mine too, m8.
The problem I have is that the only way to win last is to spawntrap the defenders. And the last part of the EV, if they take it down immediately before the lift, you have to repair it only a few seconds in front of their spawn. I really only have a problem with the first part of Chapel if the teams are imbalanced to shit, and even then, it’s solved by making the garage off limits to defenders.
Only change necessary is to make attacker spawn about 1.5-2 seconds closer in the last stretch of the EV push near the construction because that part is a bit too easy to defend. Other than that it’s easily my favorite map.
My only problem with chapel is the 2nd parts last few meters. there should be one more spawn move on the last steps of the escorts. i’ve lost plenty a game so that the ev was practically in the lift but couldn’t repair it since the attack spawn distance is so long and the defenders practically spawn on top of the ev.
True, it is a lot easier for the Defenders to hold it there than at any other point, but there are still some options you can use to breach those defences at those final few metres:
- You can airstrike the area where they are defending from (I’d use a Kira laser) and pretty much clear it completely, since there is actually not very much room for them to defend FROM, so they’ll bunch up a lot and make it easy for you. Sure, they’ll be on health stations, but that won’t help if they’re being blown the fuck up =)
- You can go for the ninja repair - that shortcut on the left flank (near the chapel) can get an engineer around the back of the defenders, sneak up to the obj and get it at least half way repaired before they catch on. OR you can do the same shortcut, then go right along the balcony and jump down on top of the EV, and repair it from INSIDE the parking spot, where you are much harder to see and shoot. OR a third option would be to send someone through that shortcut, go left into their spawn and use the MG at the back to eliminate an entire spawn wave (if you time it right) or, if you don’t time it right, take up a huge amount of their attention and split their forces down the middle, making it easier for your team to push up.
I think the issue is that you’re trying to play each section of the EV Escort road in the exact same way - a lot of different areas are advantages to different strategies and/or mercs. You have to adapt and be flexible to the situation, because the objective needs to be approached slightly differently at each section of the road.
You can get into the Defenders Spawn on the last objective of chapel. Go onto the van, and then long jump off of the bus right into their spawn. That can be really useful to hold them off so your team can deliver.

On the contrary, I rarely see Chapel win the vote, and when it does, the server almost always clears out to 4 or 5 people left. Chapel really just is not popular, or fun.
In order for defenders to hold the first point, they HAVE to spawn lock attackers. In order for attackers to win the final point, they HAVE to spawn lock defenders. The EV path is too easy to Defend just before second corner and just before the return point.
I’d even venture to say this map has the strongest defender bias of all maps, whereas Dome has the strongest attacker bias.
It’s at the point where I too have joined the server clearing party. When Chapel wins the vote, I leave. It’s just… a bad map.
It’s funny 'cause Chapel is probably the best map we have alongside Bridge. Dynamic objectives are incredibly fun with good players.
Nah, it really doesn’t. There’s some dumb clipping issues and a few spawns that need a look at.
Only happens if the teams have a huge skill difference or have stupid merc picks which is the case 9 times out of 10. Maybe try utilising teamwork and running medics. Spawn shields would do nothing anyway, you’d just have the team sit right outside waiting, and then your own team would be too scared to push out and would just stalemate themselves. Anyone can access any part of the map on every map if you know how to, like in Terminal I can be at the last point as an attacker before the first point even blows up.
They can actually, learn to long jump.
Maybe, just maybe, the issue is you on this. If you’re getting angry at a map that’s only flaws are the dumb spawns on the EV route (looking mainly at the sheer distance attackers run to the final drop off), and a small part of last (which is easy to overcome if you use fire supports), something is up. Maybe you’re just playing in public with idiots who don’t know how to attack properly.
I never spawncamp on any map but usually i just wipe the whole balcony on chapel by walking thru spawn if you consider this spawncamping then you really should just play other maps
Christ, there is no such thing as spawncamping in this game.
You’ve got a shield lasting several seconds. Run, take your sweet time to aim for the head while you’re invulnerable, and start shooting. You’ll even enjoy taking half damage when you open fire for a few seconds.
I’ve never been spawncamped in this game, and I’ve clocked 900+ hours. People that complain about it seem to expect defenders to just sit around the objective waiting for people to come in.
Point is, if you get “spawncamped”, the team just sucks too much to take advantage of a shield + damage reduction to kill a few enemies.
