The ranked high gold dilemma

(doxjq) #1

Zzz man. Anyone else in high gold struggling to find solo and duo queue games in any region?

2 hour queues etc with no games found, even though there is heaps of people playing.

Feels like the skill limit is too small (I think it is 4 ranks from memory?) and considering most people seem to be in silver we’re stuck with no games.

Over time more people will make it to gold and will fill out the pools, making it easier for you to find balanced matches. If things persist we can always review and update the skill limits.

Is the skill limit still 4 ranks like previous seasons? When we queue as a 5, we seem to get matched up with anyone. Even if we have a team of 5 golds, we get matched against bronze and unranked players. But when we are solo, there’s just nothing.

I’ve also been meaning to ask whether or not there is some other underlying factors as to why we can’t find games on our main accounts @stayfreshshoe.

Because we pretty much all made aliases, and a few of us have already got our aliases up to mid gold range, and we still seem to find games pretty easily on the aliases.

It made us wonder whether there were things other than just ranks or elo stopping us finding games on our main accounts, such as time played or something.

Nop. It’s just an elo system in play. Strange that that seems to happen. Coincidence?

Seems like we could use a Pick Up Game System

Basically you join a room, and team captains are elected, then they pick out people on their team. Yes some people will be fatkidded, but this system is fairly easy to implement and would allow you guys to play with people closer to your skill level.

This should be easy to add to the Discord server, at least I would think so. Look up TF2 PUGs for an idea.

@watsyurdeal

This kind of system is used in things like FPL and the ESEA PL on csgo, and it works great there. The difference between cs and db is that the players that are allowed to use that service are all pro players, meaning they all know each other somewhat personally.

It would be hard to make that kind of thing work in db to create balance because captains would have to pick blindly and hope that they are as good as the rank they are in entails.

How do you manage to get 208 posts on this forum and not be able to quote properly?

On my phone, doesn’t let me.

Cleaned it up.

I can see it working, our community is relatively small compared to CS GO, and for the most part we know each other somewhat. At least the serious try hards who have been here for a long time.

@watsyurdeal

Well yeah, the frequent puggers who play on the DBN servers all know each other, their skill level and their play styles.

In ranked though, 95% of people I’ve ran into are randoms to me. The community is like 5% regulars, 95% randoms. Though this is mainly due to the Aus/Asia language barrier.
