The PS3 Version

(FinalPreator) #1

Coming close to release date, I’m starting to fear a certain aspect that has become a plague of multiplatform games on PS3, namely, that they suck.

Now, before we get the lovely PC gamers who tend to chew out console gamers for every “infraction” they can find, I’m not saying the PS3 game ought to look better than PC or anything like that. All I’m asking is that, is it likely this game will run as well as it ought to? It’s embarassing to see PS3 games run like trash opposed to a 360 counterpart, and it happens all too often.

I think this game will be awesome, and I’d like to see it run as well as it ought to on the PS3. Splash Damage has struck me as a developer that absolutely knows what it is doing, but I’ve seen many a developer butcher a game for the PS3 with muddy textures and sloppy framerate. So best of wishes for it.

I cant remember where but someone on this forum said SD were making the Brink seperately on the 3 platforms? And I’m not worried about that as a PS3 gamer myself. You forget it happens a lot to the PC gamers too. I’m pretty sure lots of them thought Crysis 2 was dumbed down 'cause of consoles. And there a few more games PC gamers didnt liek cause they thought they weren’t as they should of been for the PC.
And same for the 360 look at Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow. When that was released for 360 it had a really terrible framerate issue but PS3 version was fine. There’s probably more examples than that.

Like i said i’m a PS3 gamer, and to be fair and i mean no disrespect it happens probably just as much on the other platforms. So i think you are being a bit selective.

EDIT: I think i used the word ‘they’ WAAAAY too much in that post. Where’s my thesaurus?

They had a special beta just for testing on the PS3. PS3 got special attention.

I think what I most greatly respect about this game is that it’s the opposite of dumbed down – it seems rather “smartened up”. My worries were actually instigated mostly by the absolute mess that is the PS3 version of Crysis 2, as opposed to the relatively well-running 360 version. The difference being, Crysis 2 was something I basically picked up on a whim, while I’ve been hotly anticipating BRINK for quite a while now.

Though according to what Jess just said, I haven’t been paying enough attention, so I humbly retreat to my dunce corner.

SD purposely hired a heap of console experience just to alleviate these issues. Big names too. I think you’ll be pretty safe.

Yeah, it’s usually the case, with a couple of exceptions, that games on the 360 have an edge on PS3.

Look for a comparison on Digital Foundry when Brink launches:

More importantly though is how much you care about Multiplayer. On VGchartz the 360 version of Brink has 133,000+ preorders standing at number 7 while the PS3 version isn’t even on the top 20 list. Though they may not be tracking the PS3 version.

Here’s the thing. The reason that the 360 version has the edge on the PS3 version is that the memory is more specialized for the PS3 than the 360. Since the 360 is generally considered the money console, most developers code the game primarily for the 360 version, and then port it over to the PS3, where lo-and-behold, the code suffers under the load of not having used a good half of the PS3’s onboard memory.

In this case, however, SD has stated on numerous occasions that their primary focus has been on the PS3 version, and a PS3 -> 360 port is simply that much easier because of the less complex memory distribution.

The 1 reason i have every confidence in SD with BRINK on PS3, = EXEDORE…

For me, the last relatively problem free and stable MP experience on PS3 was KZ2, and (from comments on KZ3 forum)the reason why KZ3 is not up to those standards, Mr. Alphonso was working on BRINK. GG’s loss SD’s gain.

If this project is anything like his usual work. u have nothing to fear.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #9

Yeah i think the online experience will be good on Brink for PS3. And KZ3 was its nickname, it’s real name is “Call Of Duty : Future Warfare”

(Seyu) #10

And we can call Brink, Call of Duty: Team Warfare, eh?

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #11

NEVER!!! Brink will be Brink. If anyone ever compares Brink to COD i will call them a bad name.

(Zekariah) #12

…and here we go again…

(Herandar) #13

Brink eats cod.

(Exedore) #14

While I appreciate the vote of confidence, this is simply not the case. I was only involved with SP for Killzone2, and certainly not the technical side.

(sle0609) #15

Great work. Killzone 2’s SP was awesome.

(DouglasDanger) #16

I am hopeful that the ps3 version of Brink will be good. They used that version at some of the conventions. They had an extended beta for the ps3 version. I’m hopeful.

(engiebenjy) #17

I wouldnt be surprised if the xbox version runs better, so far the only games on the ps3 that really perform to the max are the exclusive titles.

Oh and the PS3 beta would have been for networking mostly - not improving the framerate.

(obliviondoll) #18

It’s been specifically and clearly stated that NO platform is being given “more” love than any other.

ALL versions should run as well as SD could make them do so.

And I’m pretty confident, particularly given that the PS3 got an exclusive beta specifically because there were issues they didn’t have with the other versions, that the PS3 won’t be left behind.

How do you know this?

Thanks for clearing it up NA.
Still, as KZ is PS3 exclusive. your experience with the format can only mean good things for BRINK for PS3.
