The plot behind Extraction

London has been in the news lately.

Wealthiest city:

Real estate bubble:

It all keeps adding to how believable a conspiracy to empty the city and seize anything of value really is. It’s more than a bunch of terrorists who want cause panic. Putting the financial heart of the world into quarantine is actually a really brilliant ploy.

I’ll keep adding articles as I find more.

The Game needs a believable deep plot, so that ppl are interested in the first place. because people need content. and i myself always needed one. i cared a lot about quake1 universe. not so much about quake2, and i hated quake3 back in the days, because it had the plot as deep as a fly’s spit.

Must resist correcting incorrect use of the word plot.

I think an actual story wouldn’t hold up very well but If maps had like some quiet areas, like the rat man’s dens in Portal, that told little bits of story that would be really cool.

What I liked in ET and ETQW is that there is an evil team (nazi, strogg).
This element alone create a difference between the 2 teams.

totally agree with this, although i am not especialy for an “evil” team but more for a real difference between the teams that is somethin that bother me in most fps : no differences between teams results in no incentive to fight
even in tf2 wich have great characters, the fact that they are twins on both side feels stupid and dont justify any fight
war and battle in human history has almost always been justified by “the others” “the different”

i think we need to know for what reason we fight ( appart for “money” as basic mercenaries )

for that matter i think brink approach was great for difference between teams and plot

maybe starting by writing a story ( or if it is already the case, just make it more obvious) that explain the situation and clearly identify 2 positions
like for instance the government who has destroyed london on purpose and want to hide evidence and maybe even some experimental area
and on the other hand freedom activists who search for these evidences and / or want to destroy these experimental research area

This is not totally accurate but explains the three terms really well for someone new to the idea that story, plot and narrative mean different things. They are quite large topics and not suitable for an off topic forum discussion. But a plot is how a sequence of events of a ‘Story’ unfold naturally.

To get people really interested in an idea it often the genre and themes covered and not the story, plot and narrative explore is what gives it that depth. The story/idea itself takes a single route through a world while genre and themes get to explore the much broader possibilities of what the rest of the world is like.
