Okay, so we all discuss about objectives, maps, abilities, balance and all kinds of stuff that we think is important for the game to change. But I would actually like to focus on something that for me is the most important aspect of every game I play, and that is how I experience the core gameplay. For DB this core game play, will be the shooting and most of the stuff that comes with it. Because of that I would like to compare that to CS real quick.
So CS is basically a game I dislike a lot and if you look at what we expect from DB it has nothing like that. Ballanced maps? If the format wouldn´t be so forgiving to imbalanced maps, most of the maps would be a disaster. Ballanced guns? Probably don´t need to tell you, how few out of the many guns are really being used by people who know just a little about the game. And there are many other things we ask from DB, that CS is missing. Still CS is so successful that we wish DB could become at least 1/5 as good.
So why is it like that? Well first of all, CS has a vivid and competitive community - what mostly comes from the game being somewhat consistent throughout it´s versions. That´s quiet an assumptions, but I think that over 80% of CS:Go players actually know CS from prior versions, and I think that a lot fewer would actually play the game if CS:GO would have been the first version. Valve also did also implement some very interesting features like gun skins, etc. But I don´t feel like that´s the key factor. For me the key factor is, that once I am in the game, no matter how much I like some of it´s basic game mechanics, I enjoy the shooting. I enjoy to simply compete aim wise with other people, and I like to do that in a responsive way. When I hop on CS and what to play casually I don´t give a **** about balance, game mechanics or the overall heavily tactic focused gameplay, maps etc. I just enjoy the shooting.
Can someone tell me then, why I can´t enjoy the shooting in DB? Most feedback suggests that the maps suck, the objectives are bad, and the teamplay isn´t being rewarded that much at all due to the fact that everyone can do most of the stuff for himself… but that´s mostly aspects that come into organized play, what honestly isn´t the case right now. And even tho I support most of the generals opinion about those topics, sometimes I honestly don´t care even a little bit about them. Sometimes I don´t need to setup some proper team compositions, sneak some crazy routes to do objectives, organize my attacks on the objective to actually have some fun (things I honeslty couldn´t do even if I wanted sadly…), I only want to shoot, hop arround, pewpew… run forward pewpew even more… And even tho my expectations are so low in that mood, I still struggle to enjoy it - and no it´s not due to the shooting format, that I heavily prefer over something like CS, COD or BF…
