It’s supposed to be London after a series of dirty bombs were set off, right? Most of the buildings in-game are intact. They don’t look like they’ve been neglected. They’re just empty. The buildings that are damaged look like they’ve been damaged from other sources. There’s no sign of things being left behind in a rush. The only indication that there was some sort of quarantine, are the walls. Sure you can see London burning, but only from the last defender’s spawn. If there was a radiation threat, an emergency evacuation would’ve left traces of some belongings, or some indication there was a rush. The only belongings I see, is the clumps of suitcases in Terminal. Sure, there are gas tunnels, but those are only in Terminal. I’m not asking for Fallout 3-esque husks of buildings, just a little more diversity.
The maps don't fit the theme enough.
Well im no expert, but a nuke has a epicenter where like everything is completely destroyed. And then theres a certain radius where the radiation spreads to. Im guessing the maps arent very close to the epicenter, but was close enough to the point where these are the radiation extractors and such.
People probably took as much stuff as they could and ran.

Nukes and dirty bombs are distinctly different things. Nukes carry a nuclear payload that obliterates everything in the blast radius, along with all of the lovely aftereffects like radioactive black rain and fires. Dirty bombs are devices intended to spread radioactive material across an area, generally by means of sending it into the atmosphere. They are basically the most intense way of saying GTFO without irreparable damage.
A dirty bomb would presumably leave London, or most other cities, abandoned for months, possibly years, in a state similar to that in game, albeit with more detritus from the evacuation. Anything burning or destroyed wouldn’t have been caused directly by the detonation of the dirty bomb unless it was caught in the immediate vicinity of the blast used to disperse the material. All the destruction would be caused by systems failures (electrical, gas, etc.) or human intervention (think the EMPs on Chapel).
Given the timeframe I mentioned earlier, most buildings would be intact. They haven’t been clear for decades like Pripyat, so most systems wouldn’t have failed yet. Most of the damage seen is probably caused by Jackal/CDA/other parties fighting.
I think a map based in/around Heathrow airport would scratch that diversity itch. I imagine any airport would be chaotic right after a dirty bomb incident, and probably wouldn’t clear up while a bunch of terrorists are doing… terrorist things. Not really sure what Jackal does.
I don’t know England very well so one of the current maps may very well be just outside Heathrow, but all the maps are pretty effectively walled off anyway.
So I watched some old alpha/beta footage at the official SD channel and imho maps and overall look/atmosphere of the game was better. Maybe some veterans could share more info on this ?
If only we had a game that was a mix of this with current humor and fast movement
i also feel like the old DB felt more chaotic and cool (didnt play it ) it would be cool if we could ruturn to that style of envirment
True, it looked chaotic with shit everywhere, garbage everywhere, grafitti. Also some maps looked more interesting f.ex. Terminal last point looked like well…a terminal.
Also those info posts+MG on stairs, nice covers
Rest in pastas deagle audio
I am happy they changed a bunch of the character models though, looking back at some of the old art/models just didn’t seem to fit the game. Also I will always giggle about fragger’s secret identity of Dazzler! You just put the glasses on and no one can tell the difference!
I am really curious why a bunch of the stuff from terminal is now gone, especially the color. The current terminal just feels washed out and just very white. and is it just me, or do some of the textures appear sharper?
An airport map would be pretty cool, you would have a pretty fair amount of objective styles I think, I mean hell, you could probably split something like that in two different maps one an ev escort and the other c4, or delivery.

Overall graphics seem better and more detailed, even such minor things as Skybro marker looking more…marker-y with that flare light+smoke. Sharper, more detailed, higher quality, more stuff, effects yadda yadda
Oh and there were also separate weapon skins and more like separate outfits that came out with the alpha sparks update, ill try to find the link later.
Yeah I did notice that about the marker, but I feel like that might be a balance thing, since it was do obvious I imagine people could clear out pretty quick, unless it had a much shorter time until the airstrike hit.

i remember in the start of the open there was still that mg but it got romoved for balance issue but for the ads that would be cool to get that back so it could be more like a town some what like gallry

Also the ad posts (dunno how to call then) could serve as cover (weak but still something)
@aminuseternal I think the airstrike arrived quicker but I may be wrong.

That would be my post from a while back.

There was an incredibly informative video about the old system, but that got removed due to the NDA.
frankly, i think maps are too restricted in their theme.
I dont care about the plot, i dont care about london, i dont care whether the map looks like someone blew this or that type of bomb.
I care that a map is fun to play.
To me it seems that huge amounts of amazing ideas are not viable because of the theme. When can we have mp_beach? Base? Ice? hell, even supply depot?
Throw the theme out with the trash where it belongs, and give us proper, freedoom-of-movement arena-style maps.
@Someordinaryguy seemed quicker from the video that was on the thread @derpypenguinz19 linked, maybe I’m wrong, I haven’t been able to play for a week or so
They might change up a few things and maybe add stuff once they do the summer squash pass over all the maps.
I could imagine that people who are wishing for that style / level of graphics can also kiss goodbye for their framerate I’m afraid. Not that we don’t have to tell it farewells already though
@bontsa Meh, if I can handle ultra settings BF4, I should handle this too. But yeah #rippotatoPCs
That’s why this game needs proper graphics settings tweaks in-game (not via .ini files)

Just before the crafting week, I tried out minimal settings vs. newb’s config (currently afaik lowest possible to go within sense) and compared the engine file, weren’t really that much different. I recall biggest differences being stuff like liquid particles and whatnot, which aren’t exactly utilized in DB that much apart from Molotovs?
Sure I did run game more consistently with config, so there is still stuff to do in that front. I stayed around the same maximum / average framerate with both but had much larger and longer dips with in-game settings when shit really hit the fan, explosions and all the jazz. But seeing that just few months ago we didn’t even have minimal settings, lowest possible set by developers, its getting there.
On the range of topic though I also like the more cartoon-ish style now than the old, too serious grim theme trying too hard to be all serious. Doesn’t become too clowny with it, but allows for more humorous stuff and certainly keeps away or gives an argument to throw against ridicule realism-fanatics were those ever making too much fuzz.
Just imagine Fragger going through his “Mom in Venice” post-revive rambles in that theme. Completely out of place and many laughs wouldn’t have been had.
False : there are actually invisible walls and hitboxes left behind in a rush
