I’m not sure I see what you believe to be missing here… From the videos I looked up, the unboxing of the TF2 and Dota crates doesn’t look very exciting, there’s just a pause before you loot is revealed. The CS:GO one has more of a “wheel or fortune” feel with the spin animation, but that’s not that different from the sequence of cards flashing by we have in DB now.
I admit the presentation of the whole thing could have more eye candy (I for one would like to see full model previews of each of the possible loadouts with matching weapons and skins), but that’s not relevant to the “tension” of the unboxing process itself.
Well I am mainly talking about CS:GO I was just using Dota and TF2 to show how much people like opening the crates in general and CS:GO is the latest iteration and the best in my opinion.
The difference between what we have now and the wheel of fortune style is 2 fold…
1, The flicking cards now speed up rather then slowing down… This means you do not get the “HYPE” feeling of the last few cards moving slowly… Not to mention currently the card it lands on in Dirty Bomb is not the card you get.
2, The CS:GO cases show what was just after what you got (even though it does not really mean anything because we know the card you get is selected even before the animation starts and is nothing to do with the wheel of fortune at all) but it creates both hype and it allows you to feel like you was SOOO CLOSE to getting the amazing card you was after. Even though it can cause the feeling of frustration in a certain group of people (gamblers) it will actually increase their chances of going again.
Its a small thing that should be quick to change that could have a real increase in both the money spent and the feeling of opening the crates. However, due to the nature that the loadout cards effect play in Dirty Bomb across many Mercs, I still feel we should have a choice of 3 at the end of opening a crate. You could do this like the typical bandit meaning you can play with emotions even more!
