The H thing: Apparently (I don’t have links for this) it’s a recent phenomenon of pronouncing it “haitch” and the “ospital” pronounciation used to be “lower class and not proper English” but is now far more accepted and even preferred in some places.

It was just amazing to me ,being a “Saffer” (Well… I’m a Brit who grew up in SA) to arrive in England where they speak the Queen’s English, the birthplace of the language and I run into a Brummie. And a Scouser. I can understand the Scots and the Irish speaking with massive accents but the rest of you have no excuses :tongue:

Also: QI is awesome.
Also Also: The movie did the ABC warrior really well :slight_smile: and the remake sounds interesting.

I don’t know what the brummies excuse is but the ‘Scouse’ regional accent is due to being such a massive international port for so many years. Basically it’s a mix of a lot of accents.

Yeah, I noticed that they trick out nerf guns. My son has one of the nerf guns that is pictured. Cool what people do for fun. Steampunk seems to be gathering steam I guess. ha ha.

im from Lincolnshire. we have the most neutral of the English accents IMO (apart from the old farmers that speak their own language! :)) we dont do the southern thing of adding 3x the amount of vowels to words. i say grass, southerners say graaarrse :slight_smile:

unfortunately i have also lived in hull (horrible accent) and liverpool (even worse) and i do slip into those occasionally :wink:

i know what you mean about poor english, i find it frustrating on forums when the english speakers have worse english skills than most of the 2nd language english speakers.

what did you mean judge dredd? that was our local street bobby :slight_smile: :stroggbanana:

:slight_smile: i have some SA cousins. find the accent amusing. i always think of lethal weapon 2. ‘but your blick’ ‘he’s a god damed c…’

and yes, nobody can understand some scottish either or strong n.ireland. my mum can never understand scottish people!

my aunty used to live in Rotherham. some great looking birds until they speak. my dad used to call it an oral contraceptive, as soon as they speak it puts you off :slight_smile:

bought on blu-ray on release day :slight_smile: loved it! one of the best sci-fans in the last 20 years imo (and i know, i have most - dvd collection is 2000+ and about 200 blu-rays!) home cinema and movies are one of my passions. isnt the main character’s name some kind of play on words in Afrikaans or something? wickus van der meur or something like that

fuuuukin prawns :slight_smile:

funny how he says the f word in a kinda scottish accent (sounds like to me anyway) he was good as murdoch in a-team movie too

He’s a great actor :slight_smile: It’s nice to see him getting real parts. His name is not too uncommon in Afrikaans. “van der Merwe” (pronounced: vunder merver) is as common as the English surname “Smith”. Wikkus is a bit of an oddity for a name but then I’m not Afrikaans so it could be common enough in the north. (Yeah: I lived in Cape Town… in the Southern Suburbs :wink: )
And they’re saying the F word in an Afrikaans accent :stuck_out_tongue:

On topic: SA cops have really bland uniforms… and are in no way steampunky. I do not suggest basing any customisation on them.

i know its afrikaans it just seems to not go with the rest of their accent, if you know what i mean. it made me laugh every time he said it at first. actually sounds similar to a german bloke we have working for us when he says it. i guess dutch is similar to german, and dutch is what afrikaans is kinda based on.

Good point, I haven’t really thought of that. I’m guessing they’re either unlocked as soon as you download the DLC or, as you said, when you reach level 24. Guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.

I found this pretty interesting when i found it months ago. Turns out that the “American accent” is closer to a 1776 English accent than “BBC English” is.

I usually point this out to Brits that start insulting American accents/pronunciations, not that you guys have.
