When i join, it’s looking for the following file: HTTP redirect goes to a dead page and I get kicked

Need paks: etmain/sixmapi.pk3

Need paks: @etmain/sixmapi.pk3@etmain/sixmapi.pk3
Need paks: @etmain/sixmapi.pk3@etmain/sixmapi.pk3

Which file is that?

(DG) #83

thats the campaign file from the other server, it is or at least was on the http redirect? weird. edit: downloads from http fine for me :???:

anyway should be able to get it from autodownload off the other server if you connect to 195.149.21.152:27961

Ah ok, I might try another of my Wolf installs then…

( interesting that none of the PB-enabled league servers here in AUS/NZ or that I play on in US/Japan have kicked me… o_O

ggs tonight, full server sometimes.

some surprises with the maps, almost all are playing better than I and most other people thought they would. Steelplant2 in particular has got a lot of people really liking it, but not for competition, more a 3 to 6 a side fun map for that one.

glad people are turning up, been out of town but looking forward to getting on soon. im not all suprised that the maps are playing better then people thought.

A good turnout last night, up to 8v8 at times. Thanks to all for showing an interest in playing these new maps.

For the remainder of the time we have left I’d like to merge the rotations into a single rotation containing the “best” of the bunch, and try to get as many people as possible over the weekend to play them.

My thoughts on the maps we’ve tried so far are as follows:-

Definate contenders

2hide_cal_r1

A bit big, but well made and seems to play well enough. Although it has several stages (take a detonator from one part of the map to blow a wall somewhere else to get some docs to open a door somewhere else again to blow a gun) it’s not too long-winded and could be a contender. It’s used in a couple of US leagues, so should probably be given a better testing over here.

rommel_fp

Had some good games on this map. Although it’s a first-playable, and does need some tweaking, it looks like it could be a really good competition map and I’d definately like to see this one developed further.

svarvadel

My initial impression was that it looked pants. Blocky, bland buildings and walls, a bit too bright, and too much wall / roof access making it a “let’s shoot each other at distance from the roof-tops” type map. But had some good games on this map last night, and the objective is simple enough.

vengeance_final

Another map with several things to do. I started out liking this one a lot, but I’m not so sure now as it can be confusing and the Flag area seems a little too easy for Allies to defend making it hard for Axis (the attacking team) to take a grip. Being able to mine up all around the Flag doesn’t help. If it were on a concrete base perhaps?

Possibles

armada_b2

A good map, but a few too many narrow passageways and let down badly by the Tank prefabs which are simple block structures. Not bad for a beta, and indeed excellent for a first map from a new mapper, but needs a bit more work IMO.

mc_bergen

Ridiculous 12 second Axis spawn time would be the first thing needing to be fixed on this map, plus it seems too defensively biased. It’s hard for Allies to get the half-truck near enough to blow the main door, harder still to get across the bridge seeing as Axis spawn just inside the door, although there is an alternative foot-bridge way in. A bit Fueldump-ish (which is not good!). Maybe if Axis spawned further into the base, on a much longer spawn time (30 seconds at least) it could be playable. Not a write-off, but not the strongest contender either. (Very well made though!)

stalingrad

A nice enough map, with simple enough objectives (blow 2 Tanks), but a bit concerned about the amount of roof access the defenders have. Has a rather COD-ish feel to it, and my FPS suffers a bit on this as well, but has promise. Would like to see how this one plays with more people, as it was on for the first 2 days when we only managed 3v3 most of the time.

townsquare_beta2

A very well made map from Blushing_Bride, but a bit too simple, and Axis spawn too close to the objective. I can see this being the kind of map where a strong team can full-hold on defense and set lightning fast times on attack, in other words not that well balanced. Another definate maybe as a lot of people seemed to like it.

Maybe next time

hotchkiss

This map is just far, far, far too big and complex for competition, and was skipped in the rotation after the first few attempts at playing it (whenever a Ref was on) as it’s just not right for what we’re trying to do here. However, it is exceptionally well made, the attention to detail is superb and I imagine it would go down a storm on publics. More like a single-player mission than a multi-player competition map.

pitchblack

A bit confusing, a bit too dark, and didn’t seem to play that well. Hard to put my finger on why, I guess just a case of it didn’t do anything for me and can’t see it winning favour as a competition map. Would be happy to be proved wrong but can’t in all honesty put it forward as a contender.

steelplant2

A great fun map, had a real blast on this one, and plays better at 6v6 than I thought it would, but even though it’s a simple enough objective, I can see it being a bit too easy for the defense to camp the objective and make it a bit of a boring map once you get past it’s fun quirks (like the fan-assisted people launcher and the bad-ass “Sentry”). Nice for publics, but a definate “maybe” as a competition map.

uboot

Maybe OK for 3v3, but doesn’t play as well as I’d expected and a bit too small and simplistic for an ET map. Can’t really recommend this one either.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise I’m going to put the top 4 maps (2hide, svarvadel, rommel, vengeance) into a weekend rotation and drop the rest. Although I’d like to also get Blushing_Bride’s “Cathedral” in as well as a late entry, even though it hasn’t figuered so far. It’s made for competition and is exceptionally well made, I think people are going to like it.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

(blushing_bride) #88

darn it i go away for a few days and miss all the fun. id be pleased if you kept townsquare in there. (It only 15 minutes afterall) and if anyone has any suggestions for fixing it im all ears.

(Kendle) #89

BB, townsquare is nice, and several people said they liked it, but it’s a bit too small IMO. Small maps need to be superbly well balanced, and this isn’t, quite. Axis spawn a tad too close to the door Allies have to blow, but then I’m not sure where you’d put them otherwise. The Water Pump is a bit redundant as I’d expect Clans to go balls out to blow the door for a quick smash and grab. It smacks to me of a map that would be either full-hold for the defending team or very quick time for the attacking team with not much in-between. A “lotto” map in other words. Sorry that’s not very constructive, but that’s my impression having played it a few times.

(Kendle) #90

For this weekend we’re going to go with a severly trimmed down 4-map rotation, which will be:-

2hide_cal_r1
cathedral_b3
rommel_fp (+ fix)
svarvadel

Hope to see a good turnout again so we can hammer these maps and have some great games.

The rotation will be up as soon as DG can get round to it, hopefully for tonight and the rest of the weekend.

(DG) #91

weekend rotation up…

tempted to make a new thread for the w/e rotation as it’s kind of a new deal but nvm, copy/paste/convert of the newspost - though note the rtcw.jolt download links only work for people on UK or LINX network IP ¬_¬ (can swap thread link for this thread also):

The Infamous custom map week is now on Weekend rotation, using the pick of the bunch, plus the addition of Cathedral_b3, which was released very recently and shows much promise (see thread). If you’ve already downloaded the maps for rotations 1 & 2, all you need is cathedral_b3.

The server is on the rtcw.co.uk community server, 195.149.21.152:27960, in stopwatch mode with something very similar to the rtcw.no/clanbase settings. Max rate is 25000 and http redirect is enabled - but better to download the maps before joining.

Maps & download links:

Rommel_FP

Cathedral B3

Svarvadel

2Hide CAL

A convenient pack of all files needed for the weekend rotation (except for ETPro) can instead be downloaded here (20mb). Alternative download links for all maps can be found in the forum thread.

I scribbled up a quick command-map overview of the maps, so you can have an idea what to do, although these ones are fairly straight-forward.

(Ifurita) #92

Finally got to play with you all. First, great job by Kendle and DG for running this. It’s a great opportunity to really test out some custom maps and it’s a shame that more people are taking advantage of it.

We played Rommel, had fun, definately found a couple of things (more) that we need to work on.

(Sauron|EFG) #93

GGs!

First time on all maps so I can’t comment on gameplay, but I have to say that Cathedral looks amazing (and without actually killing FPS).

(DG) #94

btw the server is staying up for maybe another week, since the comments about the maps have been so positive, and to try to get as much good feedback on the maps as possible. I expect it will be the same 4 maps running all week, if anything changes I’d expect it will be to either remove a map or replace an updated map if a newer version is released.

Personally, I think by the time they get to final version, both Rommel and Cathedral should be considered easily the best custom maps for competetive play. With good feedback – which means trying them out and reporting back! – they could be at least as good (& maybe even better suited) as most of the official maps. Remember these mappers are actually seeking feedback on all aspects, any time spent will be well worth it.

(evilsock) #95

Good one - Haven’t played either Rommel or Cathedral yet so I’m really looking forward to this

I know it’ll seem all bum kissy kissy, but kudos to DG and Kendle for running with the customs - this is what communities are all about imho.
