The Infamous Custom Map Week w/c 12th July.

(seven_dc) #41

I have only good word to say about the customs both kendle and KingJackal is talking about but I am a more a mapper than a player.

I have played a lot of Stalingrad and 2ndHide CAL and they rock. mp_bergen I have played few times but that map is awesome… real good quality!

Thanks seven_dc, downloading them now. Stalingrad is a bit of a hefty download at 18.5mb (zipped) though. Hard to get maps like that accepted as most people won’t wait for them to download even on servers with HTTP re-direct.

I’ll have a quick look at them later, but I’ll assume they’ll be included in the rotations and will upload to game / download servers and amend the opening post to this thread accordingly.

Yup, Bergen is Operation Archery (not ‘Arrow’, hehe).

Last season we played with Frostbite/et_beach/supplydepot last season, and all were recieved well. The frostbite change to a command-post spawn sees axis using coverts, and there’s some good mortaring spots there. Besides, it was made by a kiwi, I have no choice but to p1mp++ it ;).

I also threw in MML_Church ( which didn’t work well, tending to be full holds or fast times - real hard to get in to the docs, but once you do you’ve effectively won ). And we played Apennines ( which I thought would work really well - and it was OK, but it’s definately a beta :expressionless: ).

We haven’t yet played any V2 Base TE - I might double-think it if you were finding the flag too influencial ( I know what you mean ).

Stalingrad’s a newer map that GA ( australian 7v7 league ) is using, with success.

I’ll have to add Vengeance to the list now - I didn’t have the TE pk3’s before when I was testing, looks like it could now be a pretty reasonable tourney map.

There’s not a whole lot more good tourney maps - plenty of good pub maps, but the requirements on a tourney map are just a tad harder ;). What completion times are you aiming for? 15/20/25/30min rounds? ( last season we played with 20min rounds, but I’ll definately be dropping that to 15, maybe lower this season )

(Kendle) #44

I’m sure Frostbite would be well received by the ex-RTCW players, and others too maybe. Possibly ought to add it, thinking about it, but then that would make 11 maps and I like even numbers.

V2Base_te was a bit of a let down when we used it, tbh. We worked with SteelRat (the author) who made many changes from the original public version (kudos to him for doing so), but it proved to be too unbalanced. As you know, competition picks up any flaws in map design, and I think V2Base fell a bit short in that respect. You can see what we all thought of it in this thread from the tourney website.

A couple of demos, if you’re interested:-

Keep in mind that the te_test pk3 are there to allow gameplay tweaking that is more comp oriented. It is still my intention, once these have been tested thoroughly to work with the leagues to add some cover at the North Rocket, etc and re-release a te_version of the map

FWIW, I’ll address CM.Punk’s comments re: Vengeance.

No need to take my comments seriously at all, I don’t play in competition and was just judging them from a “nice graphics”,“ooo this looks like it would be fun to shoot ppl in”, and “this one is easy to learn” perspective  In actual play I might completely change my mind.

Update:-

This event is now being hosted on a Jolt International Uber-server kindly donated by DG, Head Admin of www.rtcw.co.uk

IP:- 195.149.21.152:27960

I’ve amended the original post, but if anyone’s added the T! server to their favourites just for this event you might want to amend the details.

This server provides a few more slots and is a top of the range machine hosted by the UK’s No.1 game server hosting company. Many thanks DG!

NP, you raised legitimate questions that others have asked, so I thought I’d address them. The original map is designed for the pub play (e.g, random objectives) but made to be flexible configuration for comp play. Most people don’t know about the second part.

having a minor problem with the server, anyone help? -

One ET install runing two servers, both with seperate configs and fs_homepath folders. Both ETPro. One is running a campaign .pk3 (sixmapi.pk3) which is in the “root” ETMain directory. The other server is this one - stopwatch, running custom maps, which are also kept in the root/usual etmain directory.

The problem is to join the stopwatch server, clients for some reason are needing the custom campaign .pk3?? The good news is at least clients on the the campaign server arent needing the custom maps… FWIW, when the server was running a different stopwatch config, nobody told me of this problem (I never noticed it, but then wouldn’t have since I’d have the .pk3 already).

I thought of putting the custom campaign file in the “etmain” of the fs_homepath folder, but havent tried this since a) that server will be full until early morning and b) I recall this being generally a Bad. :bored:

Is that using a testbugfix of 3.0.1? Any chance it’ll get updated to 3.0.13 or something?

Just pondering, cos if so, then I can play ( I get the fps bug in 3.0.1, plus with a 350 ping from the antipodes, I can’t play without the newer antilag - seems to work ok with the new antilag though  ).

poke

/me crosses fingers

(DG) #54

(eRRoLfLyNN) #59

Rommel looks good, I would love it on that rotation

Unfortunately I can’t get on until tomorrow night methinks :frowning:

(Kendle) #60

DG, if you could upload it to the server, along with the script fix:-

http://planetwolfenstein.com/4newbies/rommel_fp_0711_scriptfix.pk3.zip

which Iffy has provided to fix spawn times, I’ll have a look and maybe add it to the rotation for later in the week.
