"The Druid Message" by Rought

Hi!

I want to present you my new project I’m working on!

It’s a little bit of castle style mixed with a small base of the Americans.

The are no subjects yet, but I’m working on it and now I just want to know, how you like the pics! Here they are:

The starting point of the Axis

This is the main hall, alle the action will be here

The map isn’t finished, cause some parts have to be done yet![/img]

I think you already know the answer to that … it looks awesome

I’m not sure what those transparant curtains are on the third pic though ?

looks really nice, my guess for the curtains - is it water? - anyway - keep us up to date!

Hi! Cool, you like the pics

That “transparent” curtains are waterfalls, you cannot really recognize them, but the sounds and the movement in the map will show you

At present I’m trying to get the effect of the waterfall falling on the water (Damn, my English isn’t very good, sry :frowning: )

You see the first try of it on the picture with the hall, just white smoke, but my explanation for that is, that the waterfallwater (great word) is hotter of the sun and the water on the floor is cold because of the stone
Wonderful Explanation, isn’t it?

(MuffinMan) #5

well i never informed me about that but isn’t that a situation for using sprites?

You mean Shaders, don’t you? I tried to program them, but for me it’s a little bit more work, than for others, because you have to paint the textures, do the coding a.s.o.
So I think that I can do that, but it will be finished in the last working times of the map… If I made before I’m gonna tell you :drink:

(MuffinMan) #7

no didn’t mean shaders, although you can do quite a lot with them. i’ll see if i can info on what i meant…

Looks like a q3-sytle map. Which may or may not be a bad thing depending on each individuals opinion. Other then that, it looks good.

Just a new pic of the main-hall and just another new pic…

If you’re not using black target_smokes on your map you could try changing the default graphic for the black smoke by something looking like a mess of water drops, then use black target_smokes with gravity as your waterfalls. It could look really good (i’ve applied it on my map too, with good results, see pic below).

(DiaZ) #11

Humm, nevermind, I see it’s a multiplayer map - target_smoke is disabled in multiplayer because it “makes network packages almost impossible to read” according to the code. You’d need to make a mod out of it

(Detoeni) #12

If you patch wolf MP to 1.31 the “target_smoke” will work.
But it can be quite a performace hit unless its carefuly set up.

(Rought) #13

I use target_smoke!!!

I just made the shot, while notargeting in a brush, so the “smoke on the water” disappeared…the void-error… :disgust:

But please explain your idea a little bit more detailled

(DiaZ) #14

The idea is not to use target_smoke as the “mist” on the waterfall base, but to use it as the waterfall itself. By changing the graphics of the black target_smoke (gfx/2d/smokepuff_b*.tga) to a mess of drops like you can see in the screenshot I’ve posted and using the “gravity” flag on the smoke entity, you can make a convincing waterfall effect. However I’m not sure about some things. First of all, I don’t know if you’ll be able to change the graphic for the black smoke without making it a mod (which I guess you don’t want) because I think it will load the one in pak0.pk3 and ignore yours. Second, maps that use black target_smokes (i don’t think there are many for MP, though) will obviously show your mess of drops instead of the smoke. Again, the solution would be coding and making a mod out of it.
You can give it a try anyways. Maybe it looks good by simply using the default gray smoke with gravity, but I don’t think so. Otherwise you could try replacing the black smoke graphics and see if the game loads your custom ones instead of the original.

I believe these screens are super. I cannot imagine that ever will make such nice maps. well, perhaps someday, but not at the moment.
Keep up the incredible work, both of you!
