The demise of Pokemon Go

I admit that I didn’t really get directly involved playing Pokemon Go, though I did end up getting trailed around lots of scenic London locations and being within earshot of people nerdgasming over Venusaurs, but I found it very fascinating as a phenomenon and, possibly even more interesting, how quickly it seems to have fallen out of favour. Seemingly a lot of this can be attributed to poor decisions by the creators, and given that it’s also a F2P title I wonder if there’s any lessons to be learned here, though I’m a bit bored of requesting a roadmap for DB at this point

This article suggests some things that have contributed to its downfall, but it seems to me like with some clever marketing and killer features it could easily surge in popularity again, as despite all the people not actively playing it, I’m sure nearly all of them still have it installed. What do you guys think?

It always seemed to me like only a very superficial implementation of what made the games (Red and Blue was my generation) so charming, but I did sort of change my opinion of that later, after seeing some people fighting gyms and the likes.

I think it’s because the overhype since it’s release and the lack of actual content before the hype is off.

I mean if they could release some kind of Trainer vs. Trainer battle while the game is still on it’s hype it’ll definitely change everything.

Just after a month the game was filled with cheaters, bot users, location spoofers and other than that: gym mechanic was a complete joke, no player versus, no pokemon in rural areas, no location submission like they did in ingress, no point in the game other than just capture the same pokemons over over and over

Though I don’t think this is a flaw with the game or even the execution, it seems to be almost entirely down to misplays by the devs. Part of me wonders if the game’s intentionally been put on ice due to sun and moon’s release as it seems almost suicidal the way Niantic have handled the game
