the corpse of Brink

I play BRINK on PC.

Well, lets say: Played. I am waiting for the DLC.

So far I have 100% of the BRINK Steam Achievments, createt 7 Chars, 6 of them are 20, the 7th is somewhere around 15.
Player numbers significantly dropped at PC. We had to switch our Clanservers to Bots=ON because there were no humans at all the last week or, lets say, the last 3 days.

For me, i have to say that I love the game!

BUT

I also have to say that there are definately things that I don’t like:

-Carb 9: Honestly. Why? Look at BRINK TV or ESL. EVERYBODY runs around with that gun, combined mostly with the light type.

  • Weapons: Its more like Spray and pray. Even scoped you are shooting all ofer the place and mostly not the direction where you are aiming at. Inly topped by the stationary MGs

  • Heavy Type: Man, I was soooo looking forward to that class. Wanted to do a Heavy Operative that sneaks disguised behind enemy lines and kills the entire team from behind with a LMG. But what did you do to that class? A bit more health than the others but it is moving so slow that you do not have a slight benefit over the other classes at all. And you go down as fast as a medium. Maybe it takes 1 bullet more. And the heavy weapons are a JOKE compared to SMGs, for example. I am really disappointet

  • AI. True, its a MP game. But thats not an excuse for such a weak AI at all. With player numbers dropping i was playing a lot more solo, just to get the “Tough as nails”-achievment. I was literally close to crying sometimes when I saw how bots acted. Standing next to each other and facing themselves without shooting etc. And then, when the last minute of the map startet, the AI suddenly seemed to increase. Well, at least for the enemy Bot-Team. Headshot after Headshot… Was really making me mad… :frowning:

But, overall, I have to say that it makes me sad so see how active player numbers dropped. Maybe its just not the time for a tactical TEAM shooter. Maybe the masses really want “stupid” SOLO Multiplay K/D stuff.

I hope BRINK will make it somehow and stays on the List of actively played games…

Yes it was time for a TEAM shooter, but this game is lacking so much, it’s like SD didn’t learn anything from their previous titles

I for one do not really see the benefit for individual character styling, as it also screws up the distinction between enemy and friendly’s.

The real Splash damage guys didn’t forget most likely. They just made a bad decision or were forced by Bethesda to hire Richard Ham as there new Creative Game director. He is a self proclaimed console first guy. For any of those who don’t know how much say a creative director has read the following info taken from Wikipedia.

"In other industries, such as videogames, a creative director is responsible for the design, vision and direction of the product, which is a different role to that of a producer or project manager. Creative directors are sometimes also called lead designer or chief creative officers depending on the specific company in question.

A creative director is ultimately responsible for the quality of the final creative work. For this reason, they get the lion’s share of acclaim when their team’s efforts win awards, but conversely, the creative director shoulders the negativity (and the blame) when a project goes wrong, response falls short of expectations, or an important individual on the client’s side dislikes or vetos an idea"

^ A lot of people don’t have perpetual complaints with the game at all…so its just your opinion, not an accurate reflection of fans of Brink. Bad is a word I don’t associate with Brink or its creators.

Really? Poor sales and terrible user reviews are not indicators of a failed product. The only reason they received the sales they did was due to hype and lack of a demo to see that the game was not what people were expecting. On the PC it is a complete failure. 1649 player peak now. Care to explain why over 90% of people have given up on the game on PC.

The sales figures I last saw were pretty impressive. Not going to be the bestseller of the year but certainly far from a flop.
Reviews have tended to be decent for Brink. Some places hate it: 1UP.com gave it a “D”
Some places love it: Eurogamer gave it 8/10, gamespy 4/5, gamesradar 8/10.
Some places inbetween: ign 6/10, gamespot 6/10.

On average the reviews seem to be positive but not as high as one would hope for.
Metacritic (PC) gave it 71% from critics and 6.5/10 from users with PS3 & Xbox numbers being pretty similar (Xbox slightly lower).

I would hardly call those numbers “terrible”. They are all above average. They’re not 90% Platinum selling numbers, but they are decent.

As for the number of people playing: yeah, PC numbers are on the low side. Hopefully DLC will bring a player injection with it. The numbers could be better but they’re not the worst ever. If it becomes a cult classic then it’ll maintain a core of players having fun.
But popularity does not indicate how good something is. I’ve played some very good online multiplayer games that have died out quite quickly simply because of negativity and poisoned communities. The games were great, solid, fun games but noone did anything but whine and the community slowly got sick of the whining and left.

Well said. Brink is pretty much a great game that is not for everyone. The people I play with on a regular basis really enjoy Brink. On a whole, the people I play with do not agree with any of the poor reviews. So, the people who like Brink are the ones who are going to continue to support new content. I am not worried about all the people who are not satisfied with Brink. I just wish they’d let the rest of us enjoy it instead of constantly posting stuff that is variations of Brink is Dead. Paul is dead too. Right?

(Je T´aime) #28

Wolfnemesis75 hes not sayng the game sux hes just doing a statement wich is accurate, stop beyng such a fanboy please, i also do enjoy brink but it does have a lot of issues that i hope will be fixed soon.

(wolfnemesis75) #29

I enjoy the game. And do get tired of threads that imply that Brink is dead or nobody plays it, which is not only unfounded and without merit, it is completely untrue. Its like claiming Paul from the Beatles is dead. Not true. Preaching truth, bro.

(Je T´aime) #30

Well zenstar didnt sayd it was dead, he just sayd players are on side wich is completly true and also sayd hes hoping the new dlc brings more players i dont see anything wrong with that.

I think this picture fits very well in this thread.
