The Cheat Config

(crooKk) #1

Network settings and some other cvars that people tweak can be debated, but the config on the right gives an undeniable unfair advantage to that player.

In most leagues/games, the cvar(s) which allow the removal of trees/leaves/bushes are locked, and in the event that someone is caught using external programs such as rivatuner to get around these cvar locks, they are banned from that league.

Cheat sites also provide this service (the removal of trees/leaves/bushes).

The problem with Dirty Bomb right now is, these cvars are not locked - but does that make it right?

Hopefully Splash Damage will lock these cvars down soon (ideally in the next patch).

They said on stream it will be locked down pretty soon. Here’s hoping.

can’t wait for the drama:

I can’t run 288stable FPS on my ultra-low cfg now that cvars are locked.

The only thing I feel is unfair, is the ability to remove foliage, explosions, and muzzle flash. And those can be locked by a few cvars.

thankfully I have the washed off version, which is like the left side just everything with less pixels and models and everything else is more washed off, tress and bushes and other props seem pretty similar

Remove it… if you cant run the game at 80-120 FPS on max settings i feel sorry for you bro. Time for a hardware update!!!

Anyway i feel a config would be nice in a way we can change the layout make custom cross-hairs ect… but to make a map almost texture-less and remove everything from the maps and make them simple coloured boxes just seems like it goes way tooooo far.

(potty1) #8

Anything which provides an “unfair” advantage outside of the settings in game should be removed. SD should set the bar to how far the settings should be tweaked. With no clear guidelines it is impossible to know what becomes unfair.

As for foliage and boxes being removed. That should be stopped right away. Your opponent cannot see you but you can see them. Surely that is as good as wallhacking?

There will be people agree and people who disagree either way. But I do beleive ALL config tweaks should be accessible via options, simple as that.

  1. i vote for lock on cvars as soon as possible.
but i cannot blame any player now, who uses the ‘picmip 20’ because - everyone uses it.

  2. i want uber low fps settings (lower than current low settings) in game.

Agree with the Cvar lock !
But we need optimisation, I run the game at 90 FPS when oneframeinterval is off … Only way to have a decent mouse movement, but the FPS drop is huge … and I have 32Go of ram, an i7 3820 OC, a GTX 980 OC and a GTX 780 OC dedicated to physx, and even with that I don’t have more FPS than some mates running the game with a i7 920 / 4Go ram and a GTX 580 …

I think there is an issue about all this …

Yes, the engine is bad. None of the UE3 games that I’ve played run well with oneframethreadlag turned off on my high-mid tier PC.

I lot of people aim just fine with OFTL, including chickenWaffles and probably some other top level players. Also the way OFTL was explained to me, makes it clear that the impact is absolutely marginal with high FPS. I have not noticed any real issues with OFTL myself either. So it seems much more desirable to go for OFTL on and really high FPS (120+ should be okay).

Unfortunately the game seems to become heavily CPU bound when OFTL is off, so the only alternative would be to get a (much) faster CPU I guess. Hopefully they can still optimise it, but it does seem like turning OFTL off is really only recommended for people with super fast CPUs or other special conditions.

this was my point too. People are taking it to the extreme and it’s unfair.

I was hoping that you will link another screenshot with a green Keel planting the C4…
