The Brink Story So Far...

(GingThu) #1

So i have listened to all the audio logs and beaten both story sides and i am pretty confused. My first thought when i beat the story mode was that the resistance was being forced to stay on the Ark or something, against their will. However, after listening to the audio logs it sounds like the resistance just wants the founders to step down so they can take over everything.

I really have no compassion for the resistance after listening to the audio logs. The founders let the guests stay on their ark and also built new areas using whatever materials they could. They also included everyone in the rations and still the resistance steals from them and now tries to kill them. It seems to me the resistance’s reason for resisting wasn’t really thought out that well, seems to me SD said lets have them resist just because they can.

The founders have done so much to try and help the other side like open up the clinics that the guests STEAL from…Also Chen knows that the ankoral (if that’s how you spell it) is dying and isn’t going to be able to support the Ark, and he doesn’t tell anyone! Instead he starts a war with security because he doesn’t want Makoena to appear to be the victor… Also the Resistance said they “built” the Ark or have been the reason it still around. From my understanding the only thing the Resistance built was their crappy guest pelgos.

Can someone please explain to me the whole point behind the resistance, because from what i understand they are really just scum, being led by an angry Chinese guys whose brother was killed in the construction of Founder’s Tower.

Also i think based on what i have learned about the story in Brink. I think the best option for Brink 2 story would be to have Chen leave to go meet the “ousiders” and find out they are really fanatics who now want to destroy the Ark. In the meatime while chen is gone the resistance attacks get more frequent and security has a harder time keeping people calm and the resistance suppressed. When the fanatics show up both security and resistance are fighting two wars.

Then when Chen gets free of the fanatics and returns to the Ark he gets some of his loyal resistance guys to join the Ark security and help them retake the Ark. This is all under the promise that when the fanatics are defeated the founders will listen to the real needs of the guests. So we have 3 factions: Fanatic, Security, Chen’s Resistance. The people who are resistance that dont join chen join the Fanatics and get “brainwashed”

I think halfway into Chen returning Makoena should be killed or assassinated because there will never be peace between Makoena and Chen. So when Makoena is killed, Chen in a way takes over and helps save the ark with security and semi security (Chens resistance). Also i think now some of the founders should be with Chen while others are still only for themselves. At the end when the fanatics are defeated there should be a clip with some Gov’t group seeing the Ark on a satellite or something that could lead into a Brink 3 if they wanted.

If you have read everything then i thank you.

These are simply my ideas based on what i have learned through the audio logs and game videos let me know what you think.

the thing is…I want them to get off the ARK - that is why i hate when stories are in stationary places because it leaves them handicap from exploring other territories - there is only so much they can say about the ARK - i want them explore the land - battling on the side of mountain tops using parkour (Mountain goat style) shooting large boulders making it fall onto bots or house vantage points…

I wouldn’t even mind something other then humans…something that binds humanity together to fight for a common cause…the one good thing they’ve done adding “what if” scenarios they can pretty much do whatever they want if they have the balls to take the story off the ark.

the thing is… the whole story is just for training… and then play the game… MP.

those all seem like good ideas

Well i would like to see them add a more tangible story to the game because if the “story” IS just for training, then get rid of it and say training mode or something like that.

I think the story has some potential, SD created a pretty good back story, I see no reason why they should just leave campaign mode a training mode spin off.

As far as adding non-human enemies to Brink i think that should be saved for Brink 3-4 because there is still a lot of story that can be told on the Ark. There is no reason why they can have mountain battles with the fanatics or even a forest map. Heck i would even be ok with flashback maps that have the world before the flood. Personally though i think aliens should be saved for…another time.

I guess Im the only one interested in the story…:frowning:

The resistance are fighting because they feel they aren’t getting enough rations while the founders are hoarding it all. The founders might be getting the same amount as the guests, but they don’t believe it. The guests in a way, are being forced to stay on the Ark, because the founders don’t want anyone leading the crazies on land to the Ark again. They said it had happened before when a scouting party was captured, and they had to move the Ark, but they don’t have enough resources to do it again.

I do agree that Chen isn’t leading the resistance for the most noble reasons. In the audio logs he sounds a little more like a politician trying to look good than someone who wants to help his people. I found it very interesting though how Chen and Makoena have the same goals and very similar characteristics.

adding a flash back of how the world was before the chaos would of added more personal value to the story of BRINK - we’re just shoved in the world with these guys at each others necks.

I thought this wasn’t going to be a black and white story but even viewed from both sides the Resistance are a bunch of raving lunatics messing things up through either ignorance or fanaticism. All their actions are rooted in pure spite.

the majority of the resistence BUILT the ark, but rebeled because the security where opressing people, the resistence are a group of civilians on the ark (not all of them)

And wouldent you resist if you went to/built an “oasis” in a ruined world only to be opressed? not letting them leave also saying “theres no outside left”, the security are clearly up to something and not innocent either.

Also chens brothers is in a tomb somewhere on the ark, he got covered in molten koral during the construction. cant remember where the exact point is, its on one of hes logs, i might be in one of the maps? :stuck_out_tongue:

One of more confusing elements of the story is that the environments don’t back it up. The Ark is supposed to be this living, breathing floating city but there is no evidence of any habitation in the maps. There’s graffiti, but it doesn’t really tie back into the story. The Aquarium is strange too, in that why would you need one? What’s the point of hanging that giant tiger shark from the ceiling? For kids?

There’s 2 different explanations for the Ark. 1 is that it was some eco-tourist Disney World sort of like a bio-dome for rich hippies. Then the second is that it was repurposed as a research/serious survival environment for global scientists to figure out how to help reverse or assist with the environmental crisis.

There’s no evidence of this repurposing in any of the “founder” areas of the maps. Why is there still a spa and the high-fashion clothing store when they haven’t seen a boat or plane in 20 years? Who is buying fancy clothes and getting facials when there is no more global economy?

Those areas would have been turned into labs and indoor gardens long ago…
