So what are the chances that this new merc has a new semi or burst rifle, that will coincidentally be very very very good, now that the current semi / burst options have been neutered.

For some reason I cant really get hyped for new mercs anymore since a long time. Instead of looking forward to an addition to the game, my first thoughts, when they announce a new merc are: “please no” or “please dont let them fuck up the game even more”. I dunno, no new merc since Phoenix/Stoker got me excited. I enjoy playing both and they dont impact the game too much without feeling redundant or being annoying to play against. Every merc since their release has one of those sentiments attached for me

People new to the game, who see a sniper and think “hahahahha I sniped in cod I’ll buy vassili” and end up ruining the match for their teamAt least SD should monetize on this and raise the prize of all recons to 100k credits / 20 EUR.
Honestly it just upsets me. A trash merc like Phantom is 50k while Thunder is only 35k.
Trashy merc is expensive --> people don’t buy him --> people don’t play him --> works as intended™.
Everyone here talking about Hanzo, while I’m sitting here wondering about the Fistful of Frags bow arc.
FoF did bows the best, the higher you aim the wider (is that correct word?) the arc, and the further the arrow goes. Like throwing javelin stick.
I expect his crossbow to work like grenade launcher, arrows flying the same way as grenades. Unless they wider the arc.

At least noobs don’t buy phantom as often, lol
I know 3 people (myself included) who bought Phantom first. Then I’ve got a cobalt S83 Arty from a regular case when I was lvl8, and he is my most played merc since then. Imagine if I’d got a cobalt Phantom instead - I would be a 100% scrub by now.
I want his crossbow to spot enemies somehow. Maybe emit a spotting pulse when hit, and if it is a direct hit, spot for a longer duration.
Also I hate playing with/against snipers, so pls give him either Grandeur or Dreiss if the new weapon is a sniper.
Im hoping his arrows are low damage utility based weapons. Would be cool to see him be able to switch utilities to support the team better. An example is having arrows that spot a radius or an emp based arrow.
Pretty sure his crossbow is only part of his ability. What about a recon/assault who fires an ice bolt that freezes / slows enemies for x seconds ?

In other words, SD really, really liked Horizon: Zero Dawn.
His crossbow does seem to have laser sights, upon closer inspection.
Could it possibly act similarly to TF2 Sniper’s “Classic”?

Fast speed and fluent movement is among the things that separates DB from many other shooters. Regularly taking this away (even if only temporarily) would remove part of its USP. It already bad enough if you get slowed down by Thunder’s flash bang.

We know he will have two arrow types, maybe one is damage and one is utility.

No please, Thunder was bad enough when he was introduced
Would prefer this cooler looking crossbow, then Hunter can be Vampire Hunter

My prophecy was almost accurate…
So, now we’re gonna make hockey and maple syrup jokes?
Alaska not canada. Many of my predictions seem correct. Probably a recon. Probably not a direct damage arrow/bolt but some special effect instead. Such as emp or spotting or debuf or DoT. It looks like the alaskin Ulu. Its a knife ive seen in shows used for butchering and dressing animals. Not really sure how much its meant to be a weapon. Its a traditional knife of alaskin natives. From descriptions its described much more as a tool than a weapon. Hunters versions appear more weaponized. Maybe his kit is multiple kinds of bolts. Like emp or spotter toggle when fired. Like nadder can hold several arrows. The payload is simply too small to justify even enough explosive of a fletcher sticky. Arrows just cant hold more than a few ounces without really messing up the range/arch. Besides the bolt is not pointy so its not a direct weapon. Things a hunter may want would be spotting/tracking and debuf/dot. Like a sticky attach to targets to track just that 1 for a long time. Could be decent. Maybe even attached on indirect hit a few feet away. That would be unique a spotter that only shows 1 but in high detail and constant vision. Wall hack mode. Or could be a debuf like lowers move speed/vision like a flash bang that goes off behind you for a significant amount of time. Or a dot damage as poison/bleed like 10/s for 5 seconds and they can stack and can hold multiple bolts like nader. Idea for dot would be sneak in dot some 1 and now they have a hard time fighting back and cant just run away to be healed easily. Also makes it possible to win those fights where foe had 1% hp left. Emp would probably put phantom out of a job as cool as it would be and replace him for team compositions.

While SD didn’t manage to keep their promise of new merc ever 6-7 weeks, I’m still glad they talked about it and even gave us some idea of what the next merc will be way ahead of his release. With Guardian, her ability reveal was rather close to her release and I still found that the community brought up some great points about it over on these forums and reddit.
Guardian did end up becoming a more situational merc than expected, but at least her launch was nowhere near as disastrous as Javelin and I’d very much like to believe it was thanks to the community being overly cautious and posting about their worries of what the Skyshield could have done to the game.I really hope that SD is done with their hybrid class mercs and that both Javelin and Guardian receive a heavy rework in the future.
They didnt keep the promise because the probably realized how guardian was released with crippling bugs they have not fixed yet and its been nearly 2 months. They should take as much time is needed to make a good product. How was javelin a disastrous launch? If you mean her owning everyone then yes. She worked as intended it appeared but was just too good at it.
They are not done with the hybrids I can assure you. This is only the beginning. The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over expecting a different result. This is non hybrids using the same formula and desperately trying to create new mercs. Hybrids break the formula and take a little from A, B and C and this gives magnitudes more possibilities. With more possibilities you get more good and bad outcomes but a total of more viable solutions. You can only use the same ingredients so many ways before you need to change the recipe. Im guessing Hunter will be a Recon much like red eye with 120 hp and 400 speed. If they are a hunter they will probably have either DMR or Semi auto rifles. Id expect like red eye the driess, some new gun and the grandeur. I dont think it will be standard sniper rifles as that really does not mesh with the xbow. The knives should be stupidly weak. They should be so weak they make the batons look good. They are not real weapons but tools especially for butchering and well cooking. Even with a modified version a cleaver is still a cleaver and not a real weapon. IF he has a new primary weapon I expect it to be similar to the driess but with a scope.
Im not looking forward to a box/xbow. They dont play well with guns and there are strong reasons why we dont have armies of them any more. One upside to such weapons is personnel armor that is to resist bullets is actually very bad vs impaling/cutting which could make them go through the armor very well. Similar to how melee in DB does high damage a arrow/bolt could do very significant damage. Basic armor resists either bullets or sharp/impaling but not normally both. I just hope they are special arrows and a delivery system for something and not just plain arrows totally inferior to bullets.
