The best distance when firing

As someone who uses Fletcher and now Nader a lot, I realised that it’s better to keep different distances between you and the enemy depending on what weapon you use. So for example, shotguns are mostly good in very close combat where you run around a corner, headshot, finish and run. At long distances however, (everyones shotgun is laser accurate except mine but lets ignore that for now), they’re obviously going to be affected by spread so they wont be as useful. But to what extent is that true?

And also the light machine gun (K-121) on Fragger, is it a short range or mind range weapon? Keeping in mind that it’s rate of fire isn’t the fastest, would it be easily out manoeuvred by an aura wall jumping a shotgun to your face? I am almost certain that the Hochfir SMG with it’s laser precision and fast rate of fire is going to perform better at short range as it’s going to be harder to miss a shot considering so many are coming. But does that mean that the Hochfir is technically more superior to the K-121 in terms of allowing the enemy less chance to avoid a shot hence dealing more damage? I know that the K-121 is going to do much more damage especially if one can land as many headshots with it as with the SMG but in regards to the situation at hand, with an aura traveling 50 miles per hour off a wall with a shotgun aiming for your head, will it perform as well?

What do you guys think?

P.S. lets pretend that the mercenary being attacked has a typical 420 movement speed, 110 health and can carry all the weapons because I just want the opinions on the weapons rather than the ability of different mercs to avoid the aura regarding their speed and health and etc.

P.S.S. the thing in bold is the “situation at hand” that I’m talking about

When it comes to the K121, it excels both at close and mid range. But only at mod range when you learn to ADS with it.

Almost all the weapons (-shotguns) are pretty accurate even at long range for the first 1/3-1/2 of the magazine. Towards the end of the magazine, the spread…well…spreads out.

In pubs you can burst fire just about any weapon to take out an enemy Vassili from long range. Wouldn’t recommend doing it against skilled players though.

But typically:

Shotguns: Close
SMGs: Close/Med
LMGs: Close/Med
Auto Rifles: Med/Long (More on the Med side)
Burst Rifles: Med/Long (More on the Long side)
Semi Auto Rifles: Med/Long (Pretty versatile weapons if your aim is decent)
Scoped Rifles: Long
Pistols/Machine Pistols: Close

Obviously you can use any weapon at any range and net kills, but you’ll get the majority of your kills at those ranges with said weapons.

In regards to your point in bold.

Shotguns are king at close range, but easily countered by range.

If you put it into context of your ‘P.S’, then it comes down to range.

Hence why Shotguns tend to do well in Pubs but not very well in competitive matches. Pub players tend to be overly aggressive and charge in, putting them in range of shotguns.

Wolvengaming thanks for the reply.

Im gonna keep that table in mind cause it’s basically what I aimed for aha yeah I get the shotgun at range being quite bad and being better at close brawls whereas things like burst at med-long distance but it was just the rate of fire that I was curious about. But thanks anyway
