Okay, I’m at a loss here so I figured I’d come here and hope someone can help.
.
I got a copy of Brink yesterday and tried to activate it, only to be told that it isn’t buyable here (UK)

I know I can’t buy it on Steam, but I didn’t know I couldn’t even play the game I spent 45 pounds on.

Does anyone know why I can’t activate mjy UK copy? Steam support have sent me to the Steam forums, which pointed me here. From what I can gather, it’s some kind of exclusive deal, yet every other online store has Brink, just not Steam. Take a guess at which handles activation…

I currently have a 45 pound coaster mug that I can’t return (as GAME said I opened it) despite it not being said anywhere I couldn’t actually install or play it

I don’t know your solution but I think thats just stupid. Why would steam send you here when they aren’t selling it? Surely its an issue on their end. I recommend sending another ticket

Not sure if this will work and its not strictly allowed but if you use a VPN like IP Shield and tricked steam into believeing you are in north american (where I believe Brink is working on steam) You should be able to activate the game. You can get IP shield from somewhere like download.com. All you do is close your steam down, run IP shield and connect to north america then re run up steam and you should see all your prices in dollars and stuff… once activated just close down ip shield and play.

it should work via VPN or Proxy… just try it… but i’m not sure if its legal :smiley:

Steam are selling it, and even so, you have to use Steam to activate it.

Which…I can’t, as it says it isn’t available (sp?) in my region. Yet, I can go to GAME, or Gamestation, or even my local supermarket and pick up a copy, yet I can’t install it due to their asinine error.

I’ve tried sending a ticket in and I’ll paraphrase what I got

BRINK is currently not on sale in the STEAM UK store due to an exclusivity deal with GAME

Odd, I asked GAME about it, they called their head office after I pressed them, no deal in place. Also, D2D UK sells it…but activates via Steam, so no play there

I’ll give that a go, ty, hope it works.

IIRC it is 150% illegal, I know who to PM if my Steam gets banned

I’m using ip shield, I can activate it fine, but I STILL get the error when it’s finished, the Oops! screen.

Hilarious (or sad) bit is the trailers are listed on Steam, clicking the trailers gives you the not available in your region screen

where does it take you after you have activated it then? None of us(from the uk) can find brink on steam even the trailers say the oops thing but surely you just activate the game and can play?

I can’t activate it as said before, I get an error after activation, the oops thing.

btw, if you post this on the “Technichal Support” section it’ll be more noticed by the devs than here :slight_smile:

Why is it illegal to “fool” steam you are in the US?

What if you work for a company that has it’s gateway in the US while you are working in the UK? And your boss is OK with it that you are playing games during your lunch break?

Oh right I just assumed that after activation the game would start… SD have any plans on actually fixing this problem or are all people from the UK who got the game after the release unable to play.

Because you can buy US games, in the UK? (whiich I do the legal route via imports) illegally?

Example time, Homefront, not available in UK Steam, is in US.

If I ‘fool’ steam, I can in theory use a stolen/hacked credit card and a fake address to buy it.

I’ll repost in tech support, or can a mod please move the thread? I noticed one guy in my friends list had it, but it (so say from him) vanished
