I don’t really understand the proxy buff either. A good proxy on defense is extremely strong and annoying to play against. Also this makes the cheap tactic of throwing a mine at a group of people and shooting it much easier to pull off. The fragger nerf seems like it will hardly be noticed. It’s still plenty of damage to onehit most classes.

(CCP115) #5

Proxy buff buffed her mines a bit much. I can’t say much till I’m ingame, but I doubt she really needed a buff like this.

The cooldown should’ve stayed the same, but the detection radius is acceptable. The reduced glow is fine.

Fragger change is almost arbitrary, what does it even change?

(triteCherry) #6

How so? You can do it more times then before but that’s it. It’s easy to dodge and she does a way worse job of it compared Fletcher.

(thoroughPistachio) #7

The proxy detection radius increase is a NERF in my opinion. Now it’s easier to trigger them around corners with a peek and pull back, etc.

Am I the only one who thinks the mines are extremely overpowered?

They have no counter play and their death range is huge.

Everybody puts mines in the same places all the time. Just learn the common mine spots and your mine deaths will drop like a rock.

My right ear is deaf, I play with headset having surround sounds. Mines still have such a massive sound to them that even I can occasionally hear them from right.

Audioques is your counterplay. And what penguinz said really. All stair, corners, objectives and ramps are “think before you tread” area when enemy team has competent Proxy amongst them.

(doxjq) #11

Proxy is my main player tbh. I use her for about 90% of the game. If you use her mines correctly, to be honest they were very well balanced.

I hardly use mine for corner detection tbh. I find it better to hold onto them and throw them at people and manually detonate them by shooting them.

I honestly thought she was the most well balanced character in the game, and I definitely don’t think she needed a buff by any means.

Well said. But leave it to SD to buff a good char, and leave Phantom below the ground. Patch was a let down.

(Gh0st1e) #13

Proxy has been pretty obsolete for a while now. Between Fletcher and Bushwhacker she doesn’t really have a place. Her mines are easily avoidable and I don’t think that is going to change.

Most people that play her well use her mines more like a grenade so this buff didn’t do anything other allow mines to be thrown 5 seconds sooner.

(doxjq) #14

Wholeheartedly disagree that she has been obsolete. Fletcher plays very different to her (despite people thinking they are similar) and Bushwhackers turret, well tbh, it’s kinda crap and almost never catches me off guard.

I play Proxy all the time, and I’m very familiar with her play style, but even then I am still caught out by enemies mines at least twice as often as a Bushwhacker turret will catch me out. It just depends on the person and their placement I guess, but all in all I think Proxy is better balanced.

Combined with her running speed and the Hochfir (great gun) I think she’s amazing. I find the mines way more versatile than a deployable turret.

But hey each to their own, guess you can argue it either way really. But I’m honestly expecting a huge influx of people complaining about how strong Proxy is very shortly haha.

True, but in higher level lobbies they tend to put them in places you never expect. Those are the ones that really get me.

You are right about the audio, however due to the nature of the game it’s going to be hard to single it out let alone have time to find where it is and shoot it in the middle of a battle.

My real problem is how you can’t avoid death if you walk over or near one.
Maybe i’m doing it wrong but there have been times that as SOON as I hear the click I long jump as far as I can and still manage to die from the blast.

(WaffleMonster) #16

Honestly proxy was and is one of the most up mercs in the game and needed a buffing. She’s completely inferior to fletcher and bushwhacker.

(Drac0rion) #17

I think her mines have too much counterplay, the audio, the glow, it’s supposed to be a trap, but in most cases it feels like it’s a lot more useful to just throw it near enemies and shoot it to detonate.

I still think Fletchers sticky bombs are far superior, I mean, damn, I hardly ever notice Fletchers with anything else but sticky bombs in their hands especially when I’m playing a low HP merc and we meet close-mid range…

I mean, people don’t complain about getting blown to bits by a cooked Fragger nade, why do you need more counterplay on a still mine YOU walked on yourself?

(Szakalot) #18

proxy is fine on pubs in the chaps where her mines can deal huge amounts of damage. in a 5v5 setting she is much weaker.

proxy also scales badly with skill level, high end fletcher will be a bigger contribution to team than high end proxy

(blisteringOwlNest) #19

I hate proxy. Buff her, debuff her, whatever. Hatred, as I am the fool rushing where angels fear to tread.

In all seriousness though, this seems fair. I don’t know the range of the explosion, but having a bigger detection makes it weaker as you can get away from the centre of explosion easier as well as what @thoroughPistachio said.

The glow reduction also makes it more of a trap, and I guess adds utility to bomb squad?
