That mine you found? Nah, I don't feel like disarming it.

I’ve been going Brink achievement hunting and I’m currently working on obtaining the elusive “That mine you found? Disarmed!” achievement. I’ve pretty much determined that it is (or very near) impossible to do it solo, as I was literally playing Refuel just a few minutes ago standing on top of a mine while carrying the hydro with two friendly engineers within turret distance of me. One even walked up to me, stood there for several seconds, gave me armor and walked away. -_-

Let’s just say that I think the AI mine defusal code needs to be rewritten. In any event, I was just wondering if a fellow player would be willing to volunteer to help me earn this achievement, as I don’t think I’ll be able to rely on the bots to help me. I’m on the PC version of Brink, BTW.

If I can get online mate I’m happy to help. Add me to Steam and send me a message if I am online.

Just play online and invite an engineer to your fireteam then ask him to disarm any mine’s he can see. To this day, I have never seen an AI engineer disarm a mine, not once. Most of the time the AI don’t even heed the fact iv’e spotted a mine and walk over one they can see anyway… not the brightest bulbs.

Disarm mine would happen more if mines were more deadly, because they mostly knock you down, disarming them becomes less important until a chokepoint is covered with them. Then I will look to disarm them for sure. If you let an enemy team lay down mines everywhere it can become an uphill climb without disarming them. Bots don’t know this or sleep.

Somewhat to my amazement, I guess it is possible, because I’ve just unlocked the achievement while solo (things have been strange online, getting a few invisible enemy matches), although in one of the most unlikely scenarios (4v4 refuel on easy).

Basically, in order for a friendly AI-controlled engineer to disarm a mine, you have to spot the mine when the engineer is basically within buffing distance of you, else they won’t recognize your spot and run over / ignore the mine (timing can be a nightmare, in this case, especially when the mine is near an enemy objective with grenades flying everywhere and turrets pointed at the mines). Also take note that if you do this with a friendly soldier in proximity, they’ll likely throw a grenade at it. Anyway, I just thought I’d throw that out there, in case anyone needs the achievement.

@Spendlove: I am no longer in need of your services, but thanks nevertheless for volunteering.

I don’t want engineer AI to abandon the objective and run halfway across the map to disarm a spotted mine. Its spotted, anyway, so it doesn’t have much use anymore.
On Terminal, I try to spot the mines and ask my team to leave them there. That way I don’t have to keep spotting new ones as much, and we can just avoid the old ones.

There are a few achievements that really require humans to get done, this is certainly one of them. Situational achievements are best to set-up with a friend to get done, then you can go back to focusing on playing the game and nature takes its course when mines are disarmed going forward.

I finally got the “T’is better to give than receive” achievement this weekend. it took me finally coming to the realization of how to use the D-pad (yes X-Box 360) as the medic. I feelt so dumb once I figured that out…LOL
