Thank you Splash Damage

With the amount of complaining, bitching and moaning I’ve witnessed people give SD about this game in the last year or so. I feel obligated to make a tread about how much I like this game and how much I appreciate the work SD is putting into it.

Fist off. I really like Dockyard. <3 Though I’ve only played the map four, five times yet. I think it’s a great map. IMHO it is the best map SD has produced for DB so far. It has great flow, just like the maps that was made for Quake III and Unreal Tournament, back in the day. It also feels well balanced for both attackers and defenders, and I like how there are multiple routes for flanking and lots of spaces to set up ambushes, and opportunities to pin down the enemy team. Also the map looks freaking great and has a very natural and organic feel to it. I really hope SD continues to produce “complex” maps like this. It adds more depth and strategy to the game.

Second. Thanks for keeping DB truly Free to Play. While I have, (gladly) given money to support DB. The game is very generous in giving you currency, and it is quick and easy, (relative) to unlock all the mercs and getting (bronze) loadout cards. To me the game has never felt grindy or greedy at all.

Third. DB is fun to play. For me it has the same kind of appeal and draw that Quake III had. (Which I played continuously for many years.) Sure I get tired of playing some times, but I keep coming back to DB. I’ve played other new class based FPS games like Overwatch, Paladins and even the new Quake Champions, but I just like DB more. My biggest gripe about DB is not related to the game it self, but to some of the people playing it. I’ll refrain from going into details about this, but by golly, the amount of toxicity and stupidity I’ve seen in this game… Makes me want to claw out my eyes and lobotomize myself some times.

Lastly. I like how this game, (and SD) does not take it self too seriously. I love the humor and edge that this game has. Splash Damage seems like a bunch of people you could go out, have a laugh and have a beer or five with.

Is the game perfect and without issues? No it’s not. But people seem to forget that DB is still in development and SD is a small, (but growing) company. They are after all just normal human beings. Some times they make mistakes, and sometimes things takes a while to get done. It’s just the way it is in the real world.

Thank you for all your great work Splash Damage. From Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory to Dirty Bomb. I really appreciate the things you do and the games you produce. GG!

There. Now I got that off my chest. Shoot me down in flames…

It was STILL in development from year 2014.

I’m being really honest, game wouldn’t have come this far if it didn’t have unique merc designs and super awesome gameplay with almost very stable gun/merc balance.

Just saying people who started this game at 2017 or late 2016 is lucky enough for not waiting the same shxt for at least over half year.

Really hate myself playing Dockyard yesterday while mocking Sd though. Fxck me.

Game development takes time. Even more so when you have a small team. The game Owlboy took nearly 10 years before it was released.

I’m feeling lucky, who got to participate in the closed beta of DB. I wish I could have been in on the alpha. Sure it would be great if the game was done and had all the content that SD has planned for it, but you can’t just will things into existence.

Personally I don’t care about the time it takes for the game to be finished. Now that SD controls everything and is adding more resources and developers to make DB, I’m confident that they will develop the game and produce more content at a faster pace.

Exactly!

Thank you SD for you’re perseverance despite limits and the small dev team you guys have to word with! Thank you for designing such a unique free to play game that in no shape or form is pay2win.

Though I still am salty about the jumpsnipe nerf >:

My TAKE.

First, I would like to thank the developers for making good effort to fix DPC issues. @stayfreshshoe got word of thanks from me (and the late D9D) earlier on the update before Dockyard. We know a few other things besides UE3 being the sole bottleneck in this area of concern and things are shaping up. There’s noticeable improvement, and it is commendable. There are still players there that are reporting frame rate drops and they could be suffering the same symptoms.

Here’s my latest profile of ShooterGame_Win32_Shipping.exe:

As you can see, CPU 0 has throttled down; CPU 1 & 2 are revved up… but ahhhmm… CPU 3 is still spin fidgeting… and the spikes happen too. Not as severe as the ones on the Intel/NVidia camp, but still enough to get you killed.

Next, here’s a LatMon Profile at approximately 19:45 min in game:

We’ve identified a few other areas that needs investigation and adjustment but having only one active front in the diagnostics and testing means it will take longer to check on things and fix things. It’s frustrating…

As reported, the DPC stacks still pile up and the inevitable will happen; not as severe, but still getting there. This is what it looked like at the time when the LatMon profile got screen capped:

Second, thanks for making good on Dockyard. Shoe mentioned “flow of offense” and indeed, with the multiple flanking routes to take to cater for a player’s type of merc this map appears to demand higher team cohesion and it can prove to be challenging for smaller group skirmishes, so it is ideally a 7v7 or 8v8 type of map. The balance is there, and it is designed with due consideration of various weapon types in use in the game so the variety of choices for players is practically limitless.

Third, Ranked S2 is aahhmmm… it’s an improvement over S1, but still, the catch all mechanics of finding a match throws balance off the equation. How about regional distribution of match servers… and cheats… That’s for another thread.
