Texturing problem

(Yorrick) #1

I just made a new texture and I put it in my map. Obviously in etmain>textures>mymap.
Saved as .jpg.
Then I tried it out in the map. But it seemed it couldn’t find the texture (you get to see the orange black tex). Then I tried out one who I made earlier which was in the same folder and also saved as .jpg. And that did work. So how come I can’t use my other tex?

Did you just modify other texture??

If not be sure that the texture size is 256x256 or 512x512 or any size of 2.

Did you check your shader?

That must be it. But is that really necessary? Because there are loads of textures that aren’t any size of 2. Like little signs.

Every texture needs to be a 2^ side…

so.

2 , 4 , 8 , 16 , 32 , 64 , 128.

that’s what i know… i don’t know if just 2 works… like 400… never tried.

but you can combine 16 with 128… which is weird but still works ^^

This is quite a strange rule with the 2^ … it even applies to models.

yes but maybe the sign is long shape 128x64…

or they fill up the space with color black…

(th0rn3) #7

Erm, did you put it into pk3 ?

Yes that power of 2 law is strange but the jpg file has to be baseline (Standard) not progressive when saving a custom texture in photoshop or any other program. Or you will get the cool orange boxes
