Textures overlaid with colored noise

(KeinBaum) #1

Yesterday I was playing dirty bomb when suddelny some of the scenery’s textures where overlaid with colored noise similar to this. The noise was constantly changing, some of it only when moving the mouse, some of it even without any input.

Also I was palying with Fletcher and when defusing c4, the mesh of the phone he uses to defuse freaked out. It wen’t all spiky like a hedgehog.

As if that was not enough, after a while some of the mercs where flashing red.

I tried to record it with Shadowplay but it too had a stroke. Here’s a small part of what was recorded in case it somehow still helps but I wouldn’t watch it if I had epilepsy:

After a few minutes the noise disappeared again but one single patch of static colored overlay remained:

In the second half of the match everything was fine again (although I did not check if the patch seen above was still there).

That was the first and only time this has happened and Dirty Bomb was the only program affected.

I’m still wondering if that was a Dirty Bomb bug or if my graphics card is dying.

I ran some of FurMark’s GPU and memory burners for the card and everything seemed fine. That’s the only testing I can think of.

PC Info:

EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW+ 4GB, GeForce Game Ready Driver 364.72 (not the newest, I know).
Intel Core i5-3570
8 GB RAM
Windows 8 Pro

MAYBE your game files are corrupted. Try to use the “Verify integrity of game cache…” thing.

This is very odd!

We haven’t heard any other reports about this, so this makes me think it is your system/graphics card (as they do wonky stuff like this time to time!)

My first recommendation is to make sure it is seated all the way in it’s slot, but please make sure to let me know if this happens again (hoping it’s just a one off thing).

Cheers!

I actually had problems before because the cards wasn’t sitting in its slot properly (maybe a year ago) but I thought I fixed that. I just checked to make sure it hasn’t gotten loose again and there was no wiggle room at all.

Also when the card was loose it had a noticeable effect on in-game fps and the FurMark tests mentioned above. I didn’t notice any fps drops while the bug happened and as I said the tests I ran afterward also ran fine.

I’ve also noticed this as a memory leak way way way way way way way way way back when. Colored noise, not magenta epilepsy triggers. Restarting the game fixed it for me back then.

Just to clarify: What was recorded by shadowplay was not what I saw on my screen. I saw the game with trippy textures. I only discovered the glitched video when I wanted to upload it.

Like these? I took these screenshots in May of 2015.

That looks amazing. I reckon it’d be cool if we could turn textures like that on to brighten up certain walls (walls are really boring )

That happened to me before 1 week. I tried to restart game and pc but it didn’t work. That day (or even 2 days) I had to play with those textures. Those textures were mostly on Bridge map (around defenders spawn point). Those textures weren’t over all object but just over some of them. After that everything come back to normal - I don’t know how it was fixed because I didn’t do anything (except put out and take back GPU).

@Ardez Yes, exactly! Is your graphics card still alive? While I’m reasonable certain that mine is not dying that would still reassure me.

Yeah, well… I upgraded last month. But I continued to use that video card for over a year with zero issues. 660ti

Update your drivers, restart the pc. Should be fine.
