texture tantrums
Ok, I’ve done a bit of a tutorial for getting repeating edges using a texture I created last year. Thought it would be better to use pictures because I can’t describe it as well in words.
1: This is the pic i’m going to use

2: Added a few smarties so you can easily see what i’m talking about.

3: Copy and then flip the image in the vertical axis so that it’s along side itself.

4: Move the above images together and flip those in the horizontal axis. (Or flip the original twice).

5: Move these all together and you end up with a smartie tree

6: The smartie tree sides will then be repeatable, so you can use this as a texture.

7: This is it without all the smarties.

However, if you need to keep the image upright you could either put a common line in separating the frames, or place them along side each other and blur the edges, as finely as you can, so it looks reasonably natural.
If you have photoshop you can also use the filter - other - offset tool - then use the clone stamp tool to adjust the textures so that they align properly. If you have any further questions on this just let me know.

Please explain more
Do you mean Pshop has a kind of auto-function to make the edges match when they’re tiled, or does it still take a lot of time/energy/skill to do? I am mostly lacking in energy and skill, and time too, hehe :moo:
This might not be the best tutorial but I did a quick google for photoshop tile tutorial and found one so I didn’t have to make my own. Here ya go - follow it through and hopefully it should do it for ya. If you have any further questions again, just let me know.

Paint Shop Pro does all that above in 1 click.
Just select: Effects/Image Effects/Seamless Tiling, then u can fiddle around with how u wanna make it tile in the effect dialog that pops up. Cant be easier.

1 click sounds good! I’ll give the Pshop tuts a go too and see how it works out.
Has anybody had a problem of their textures looking brighter in the game than they look in the saved file?
All photoshop effects are drawn seamless. Clouds and difference clowds which you used above, are always seamless and any other effects (except a few like wind) you apply to those will still remain seamless. Seamless being a texture that doesn’t tile and doesn’t have any visible seams.
Your method with the balls is bad because you create those mirror lines where the textures join. As long as you don’t do custom brushwork on the image or use any gradients you can be pretty sure that it will remain seamless. Use the already mention offset filter to make sure. If you do do custom work and the texture is not seamless then besides the stamp and heal and all those nice tools you can also use the very exellent pattern maker under filters. It is not for high detail images but the result is always seamless.
