Texture Load Failed

I’m trying to set up GtkRadiant 1.5.0 for use with RtCW, because I’m interested in creating some single-player maps. I’ve already set up GtkRadiant so it’s pointing to the appropriate directory for the game executables, but - upon launching GtkRadiant - I get the following messages in the console:

How do I get GtkRadiant to locate these textures that it wasn’t able to load?

As you’ll notice above, GtkRadiant is installed to “D:/GtkRadiant 1.5.0/” (rather than the default directory). Also, I have RtCW installed from within Steam, but I’ve copied a second set of the game files to “D:/RtCW (Clean)/” to ensure that I’m working only with textures that would’ve been included with the game. (That way, I don’t hafta worry about using textures that might’ve been downloaded from an impure server.)

Hello Kevinski and welcome to the Splash Damage Forums. I wish I could help you with your problem, but I can’t. :frowning:
I seem to remember this being a common problem for some people who are installing Gtk Radiant. If all else fails, try version 1.4.0. Sorry that I couldn’t help.

(shrubnub) #3

You need the common texture pk3 and the astro-skies pk3, I can’t remember where to grab them right this second, but I can upload them later tonight if you don’t find them by then.

I might give that a shot if I can’t get 1.5.0 working properly, but I’ve heard that 1.5.0 is probably better for me, since it works better under Windows 7 than 1.4.0 does.

I’m pretty sure that you’re referring to here, but I only see astro-skies.pk3. Does anyone know where I can get the other one and what it’s called, specifically? Also, I’m not missing any in-game textures whenever I play, so am I correct in assuming that I can safely use textures from these two pk3’s once I download them without having to worry about people who have the full game installed missing textures, as well?

That should be it. I don’t think that the textures in the common pack are any that are displayed in game, only for map development. Shouldn’t be an issue, as they’re all for clips, caulks, portals, etc. As long as you can see them in Radiant that’s all that matters.

Ah, based on the name of the pk3 file, it looks as though that’s also available from the link that I posted. Thanks for the info.

EDIT: I’m still getting the following:

Texture load failed: "textures/common/bluegoal"
Texture load failed: "textures/common/mirror"
Texture load failed: "textures/common/mirror1"
Texture load failed: "textures/common/portal1"

Should these ones have been in the same pk3 files?

Also, I noticed lights.pk3 in that same file repository. Do I need that one, as well? I put it into my Main directory, but it didn’t seem to fix any of the texture load fails. I just kinda wonder if I need it for anything else, as well as how I can find the other missing textures.

Hi, kevinski.
Don’t forget to install GTKRadiant in the same diretory, where is installed your RTCW game or vice versa.

[QUOTE=vicpas;264936]Hi, kevinski.

Oh, is it not enough to simply specify the appropriate path to the game? I was under the impression that the two could be completely separate, as long as the appropriate path to the executables was okay. If it’s not, then would you recommend that I simply drag all of RtCW’s files into the same directory as GtkRadiant so they’re mixed around, or should RtCW’s root folder (not Main, but the folder that Main is in) simply be a sub-directory within GtkRadiant’s root folder?

By the way, I’ve been watching your videos on YouTube lately. I was actually gonna play through all of the fan-made single player maps on RtCW Files, myself, but it would appear that you beat me to that quite a while ago. Thanks for uploading those. They’re very interesting. I’m curious, though, as to what happened to your MGS2 Tanker video, which you linked to in the comments on RtCW Files for that map. It says that the video was removed. Is there any particular reason for it having been removed?

I’m not sure what’s in lights.pk3 without looking inside it. As far as those 4 missing textures, those all sound like they’re quake 3 specific, I don’t think you’ll have any problem with not having those in RtCW. AFAIK, texture load failed is just about being able to see them in Radiant, not in-game.

(kevinski) #10

Ah, I’ll not worry about them, then. Thanks for the info.

(vicpas) #11

Hello, kevinski.
I removed the first video about MGS2 Tanker, because it had defects and failures.
But i made another, see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjyLkgEPews
I already posted the new link on Filefront site.

(vicpas) #12

About Diretory installation, I want to say like example;
Install GTKRadiant and RTCW on diretory C:\Program Files.

Oh, they’re both located at D:\ (on a second hard drive), so I should be fine.

D:\GtkRadiant 1.5.0
D:\RtCW (Clean)\

Hello, Kevinski.
Do you had success with GTKRadiant v.1.5.0?

Ah, yeah, it works fine. I’ve been preoccupied with other things in the meantime, though, so I haven’t been doing much with it just yet.

Good luck with mapping Kevinski. I’d like to see the map or maps you’re working on when they’re ready. :armadillo :
