texture help

i’m having some problems with a door texture. i made a door and gave it a door texture but it comes out half of one side of the door cutting in the middle. is there a way to fix this? or do i have to move my entity?

hit Ctrl-Shift to select the face, then S for the surface inspector. You can either use the horizontal and vertical shift to manually align the texture or you can try using the fit button.

Hint 1: Grab irfanview from www.irfanview.com. It’s great way to preview textures outside of Radiant

Hint 2: Take note of the texture size when in irfanview and if possible, try to stay with the same relative dimensions. It will make ‘fitting’ textures easier and more natural

Or while is surface inspector you can click on FIT if the door is the size you really want. I generally use fit alot, too lazy to fix it all up, but still looks good.

Or you can select the face and hit shift+b to do a “fit” operation without having to open the surface inspector first. The inspector opens, but you don’t have to do anything.

as rgoer said … .select the brush face … press shift+s and close … dont touch anything.

shift+b does the “fit” operation and opens inspector window
shift+s opens the inspector window only

shift-s is the patch inspector… Though I never use it.

I do just about all of my texture manip with the shift and cntrl hotkeys:

shift-pageup = rotate 45 degrees
shift-uparrow = scroll texture up
cntrl-uparrow = scale texture up
4 = change to grid 8
5 = change to grid 16

etc. etc.

I only use the inspector for patches.

Note: and I mention the 4 and 5 hotkeys for they will not only change your grid with one keystroke, but they will also change your texture step. So say you are trying to align a texture, but its not fitting right… all you gotta do is lower the grid, and then you will be able to step your texture in lower intervals.

Im babbling.

You’re right… in my haste, I mistyped. “Shift+b = fit” was the main point I was trying to get across.

And you never use the patch inspector? You poor, poor soul ;^) The patch inspector owns you! You will learn to love it!
