Texture Blending

(Futan21) #1

I’ve tried blending textures following this tutorial: http://simonoc.com/pages/articles/terrain1_1.htm

However, I can’t get nearly the results the pictures show, even using his own example maps. What I get is basically the look of 1 texture with the added tint of the other texture.

Absolutely any help is appreciated.

Care to post a picture of the radiant area? When I did it, I had a problem with: .tga was lacking a properly defined alpha channel.

I eventually used .jpg anyway but check your .tga to make sure it is 32 bit.

yup ok makes sense. 1. delete the line that says q3map_alphamod in the shader.

  1. You need Alpha 0% poles where it meets the texture. Thats the purple one.

You have the newest version of q3map2.

Did you download and use Sock’s files - just his files, duplicating his steps in a small test map with none of your own, home-made files and scripts? Did you get it to work (smooth, nice blending)? Just to make sure that it works at all.

I had the exact same problem a few years ago.

What fixed it is that i downloaded the latest version of GTK Radiant which had the latest version of q3map2, what Version are you using?

You have to have q3map2 version 2.5.16 or later for the blending method your trying to use to work.

For the newest version of q3map2 download gtkradiant 1.5.0 and copy/past it into gtkradiant 1.4.0/1.3.8

Updating the compiler fixed it. Thanks all.
