testing a pk3...

(Ziggy) #1

This question may have already been answered, but through my various searches of these forums and the internet, I haven’t really found any info. I have made a pk3 file with a sound pack for my map, an well as some skin changes, and I would like to test them out in the game to see how they work, look, and sound. How would I be able to test this? Would I have to place my map in the pk3 file along with the sounds and skins for it to work.

thanks

Ziggy

Yes you can. Altho it will be easily over written. Since you can’t put it to mods directory (except etmain) afaik. The map I mean. So you would need to name your pk3 alphaphetically after pak0, eg. xxx_map

ok, im still a bit confused though still. Are you saying that if I rename the pk3 with my maps name, my map will not be overwritten. or are you saying there is a different way to test the map?

put <mapname> map pk3 in etmain, rename sound/skin mod to zz_mystuff.pk3 and put it in etmain, host game, type /map <mapname>

afaik, that should work

ok, thanks. I will try that

hmm, still wont work. im still a bit confused though. Heres what I have so far

Drukkamern_mp.map (I do not have this in a pk3)
z_thompson.pk3 (this contains all my sounds and skin mods)

Should I rename the “z_thompson.pk3” to zz_mystuff.pk3, then stick my map in the same folder, or put my map in a pk3 and then add the mod pk3 to it.

sorry if this is a confusing post, but Im a but confused myself…

Thanks!

No need to. Just pak your map as normal, and leave that mod separate.

What kind of sounds and skins? If they are related to the map itself (and aren’t those that should “overwrite” sounds for other maps) then put them in the map’s pk3 of course.
