Terrain?

(iamjackscolon89) #1

I’m really sorry, but I’m new at mapping with GTKRadiant and I just had a question. How do you create terrain? I looked through most of the tutorials listed in the sticky and I still haven’t found a tutorial for it. I found a plug in called GenSurf but (as far as I know) it isn’t compatible with ET. Is it just that obvious that no one thought it deserved a tutorial, or am I just retarded and can’t see it right in front of me? Please help with any terrain tutorials you guys have.

i wouldnt jump stright into easygen

consider what kind of terain you need, what size, to start a new map or to add to an existing map?

if your map is a very large terain based map then use easygen, but it may help to familirise yourself with some of radients tool before you do more complex things like importing terain

personaly i dont like easygen, it produces some funny results that need to be manualy tweeked and its often hard to get the exact effect your after with a greyscale image, i create myself a grid of caulk traingles and raise and lower vertices so i can get just what i was after

I wanted to create a huge valley with a sloping hill all going to the center. this would be a huge huge valley, like a little bigger than helms deep big. i found a tutorial, but its waaaay to complex for me and talks a LOT about shaders. i guess i need to learn about shaders, eh?
