Terrain tutorials

Is there anyone who have a good tutorial on how to make terrain
for a town setting.

What program was used to make the terrain in Goldrush for example.
Looking at the .map file all I see is terrain texture all over.

i’d suggest to have a look at the links-thread as this question is covered there and in many many posts already
