Terrain shading problem

(2Bit) #1

Hi

I got myself comfortable using GtkRadiant 1.4.0 making ET maps that majored on scripting, animation and suchlike, and then decided I’d learn how to do terrain shading to make the next maps look better.

I downloaded Sock’s terrain shading map examples and compiled the first one (having put in player starts etc). It loaded ok in spectator mode and crashed when I pressed L.

I’d noticed some error messages during the compile so I downloaded the latest Q3MAP2 and put that into place, re-compiled, re-tested and everything worked fine.

Then a new computer comes along, so I copied all the material onto the new PC, and could work on mapping again just fine. This time the Sock terrain shading test maps did not generate any compilation errors but they do crash my PC again.

So now I’ve downloaded GtkRadiant 1.5.0 in the hope that this would bring any/all latest components and the Sock test maps would compile/test ok, but they still crash the PC.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or am I really looking at take everything off and re-install ET, GtkRadiant and Q3MAP2 again? :frowning:

Many thanks for any help; sorry if it’s an obvious solution to you, but my brain is starting to get fried and I think I’m buzzing round in circles.

(carnage) #2

its nothing to do with radien or terain blanding

ET needs sertain things to run team entits in the game
when you in spectator mode no prob but when you press L and you have not spcified any comand map cordinates then it falls over

in worldspawn look at the keys for the max and min cordinates

carnage, you’re a star

I did know about worldspawn, but I was so confused by what I thought was an installation/mod/terrain shader problem that it would never have occurred to me to go check the worldspawn params :moo:

A very good deduction on your part, many thanks :drink:
