Terrain metashader question

(Teuthis) #1

sorry in case I overlooked some old posts but I could not find an answer to this in the first place.

when I have my floor (roadway actually) and want to add some fancy terrain metashader on it (like in goldrush), how does this metashader work? if I just add the common/terrain Metashader texture on a caulked floor brush I see this wired effect when I compile. So how are those terrain shaders used? do I need to make a brush in whatever texture I want and then put another one of the same size on top of it that then carries the terrain shader? From all common textures this terrain shader is a mystery for me.

thanks for helping

First time I’ve heard of metashaders

There was a topic about making terrain recently: http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/38893-Making-Terrain
You can find lots of information there on how to make it look nice. I think the effect you are looking for is terrain blending (where 1 texture gradually flows into another)

The specific tutorial that also has some info about metashaders is this one: http://www.simonoc.com/pages/articles/terrain1_1.htm

What you see in the core maps is the “old way”: the whole terrain is en entity, and it applies texture from its info plus a .pcx file.

I’ve never found out how the colors of the pcx are bound to the shaders

SimonOC method is more powerful as you can choose more values between 0 and 100%, and you can see in the editor where are the textures (while you’d need to compile or mind you map in 3D and apply the PCX ontop in your mind x)).
