Temporary XP save in case of internet issue

(Jan S.) #1

Hi, I got this idea after I got disconnected today from competitive match because of 5 seconds internet crash.
If you get kicked because of the internet connection, after you get back to the game, you don’t have any XP you earned there. So my suggestion is, add some kind of temporary XP save in case this disconnect issue happens.
Of course, it would just save your progress on that server, it wouldn’t just add it to your acc after you get disconnected.
See the picture below

Servers should be reporting any xp earned by people that played during the round whether they left or not. Hopefully that’s in the long term plans.

Yeah thats what I meant. I’ll try to ask on a dev stream, too bad I haven’t before

Would be a lovely and welcome addition

If your connection isn’t stable, don’t play games which require a stable internet connection. So simple. It’s a 101 requirement for online games.
@Ghosthree3 Never ever seen an online-shooter which did such things. I believe it is for a reason. This would lead to things like: “Cheater get kicked but keep all his EXP”
Edit: Post written before OP changed the initial dumber idea.

(Ghosthree3) #6

Definitely seen a shooter that has. Also that is a poor reason to not do it since it should not be expected that cheaters keep playing for long.

Never played any Battlefield?

  1. My connection (20 ping, 15Mbps down, 5Mbps up) was always OK for online games, there are just connection issues lately.
  2. Some Wolfenstein ET servers (almost all actually) were capable of forever XP saving.
  3. XP would be added to you account AFTER the match end (like it normally does). Servers would just remember how much you earned in case of conncetion issue.
  4. I believe there is a difference between player kick or lost connection.

This makes no sense.

You basically don’t care about giving xp to a cheater : anyway you’ll feed him xp by staying in a game where he is, being killed at first sight. A cheater is here to troll, to spread tears and hate on the whole server, to absorb any single small droplets of your joy : he won’t leave unless he’s forced to by a votekick (which is extremely unlikely due to how players are clueless about votes, or worse reasons), and will likely earn his xp no matter what. I am also sure a cheat exists to manually boost your own level.

The one who is more likely to go away, in the case where a cheater is encountered, is you. What’s the point of playing in a game where someone is cheating ? This is like giving a banana to a monkey everytime he slaps you in the face ! If you stay, you encourage him. On the other hand if you leave you can’t grab the small part of xp you earned before he joined the server. This addition would simply solve that problem if it was applied to any kind of server exits but kicks, but it seems like @JohnS only suggested it for lost connections.

In addition, saying that someone mustn’t play online because he oftenly have connection issues is being intolerant. Those people have the right to play too, they make Dirty Bomb live like you.

EDIT : Just don’t play matchmaking though. Stick in pubs.

I agree with everything you said @Eox but…

For any game with casual servers sure, but if you know your connection is unstable do not queue for match making games because that’s basically griefing. Many a tear shed over LoL over this tbh.

Well, I can give you that point.

Devs could take middle path, like limiting exp save for disconnected game achievable only once every 7-10 games. And if player get disconnects every second game, then he should take a really good look at his connection, since its no longer problem with game itself.

Didn’t say a thing about your upload or download. But a stable internet connection is a legit game requirement. And just saying as an objective fact, without trying to upset you or anything. If you can’t have a requirement, you can’t get the same experience from this game as other people.
And it wouldn’t be fair if everyone who leaves or loses connection will get their EXP. People will leave the games they don’t want to play and will still get some EXP, but no loses. And their team will have the lose. And because the game is recording your EXP it has to record how many games you’ve played. The mission “Play X games in Y” would result in people joining, making a kill or something and leaving. But still getting the mission done. And if you say: “leaving and losing connection is a different thing”, people will cut their connection instead of leaving.
So it’s way better to leave it as it is imo instead of making a way too complicated system for a minority.
@kibloy Besides BF2 and the f2p thing? No. BF3 is a horrible game imo.

I’m actually surpriesed the game doesn’t add your xp “on the go” as you play. It’s really a dumb mechanic. Why should i lose my points if i get disconnected or have to leave a round because real life calls? I worked hard in the game for those points so i want them.

(Jostabeere) #15

Because you leave a mission and abandon your teammates maybe?

The thing is, wolfet or past splash games actually gave some time until disconnect (I used to play them with really bad connection 6 years back, so I know what it did), but If something happens in DB, I get disconnected after 3 or so seconds. Secondly, It happens rarely, but It really makes me upset when I lose XP. Also, happened only once in competitive and I have returned right after disconnect, unlike other leavers.
Also, I think you didn’t quite understand me. You would still NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE SERVER AT THE END OF MATCH.
English isnt my main language, so Ill try it again

Servers would remember your XP
You would get your XP and credits reward at the end of the match.

That means people wouldnt be able to use that for missions like you said.
Sigh.

@laudatoryLunch
I don’t see many ways how this would be used for griefing.
Any mission hunters would still need to be at the end, and you can not predict when the game will end after you leave

Ive also edited the main post to make it more understandable (I hope) :stuck_out_tongue:

Your initial idea was WITHOUT the “you only get EXP if you come back”.
I like and want to keep EXP if I Rejoin into the game. But still dislike your initial idea of keeping EXP is I just quit a game.

I forgot to add it there, my bad. Like I said, English is not my main language and I still have few issues when it comes to explaining things. Sorry

So i should lose all my points because my connection failed me, because i have an urgency or even better because the stupid anti-cheat crashed on me? Ok then.
