Teleporter deleted everything???

(Aikon) #1

Hey guys,

I went to this link: http://user.tninet.se/~fzo823r/how_to_make_a_teleporter2.htm which was posted in the tutorials sticky, and I have tried to import these 3 entities into my et_entities.def file. I had simply done copy paste on the entities, and put them into et_entities.def. Now, when I started Radient, I didn’t seem to have anymore entities, and in fact, when opening one of the older maps, they did not even show older entities…help, please?

EDIT: Found the problem (erhm…I guess) , if anyone ever has this problem, hope you look at this first: I opened the et_entities.def in Word, then I did copy paste, but it seemed that, after I did this, the stuff looked much cleaner in Notepad, so I put my older et_entities.def, which I had a backup of, and compared…correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems that, if you open up the et_entities.def in Word, it totally screws it all up. So it would be best to just open it in Notepad.

I’m happy I’ve resolved my probs, back to mapping now…

after you cut and pasted, when you saved the file… was the extension retained? as in .def
sometimes wordpad and notepad will append the .txt to the end, as in et_entities.def.txt in which case radiant will ignore the file.

it’s always a good idea to keep a backup of your .def just in case things go funny.

word will reformat the textfile and include some formatting stlyes which are far beyond the limits
of a simple textfile. maybe this happened to you. as you recognized yet, config files should alway
be opened with “pure” text editors. notepad, wordpad, ultraedit… those won’t go crazy with bold
font type or paragraph formatting. but happy to hear you’re back in action again

@ MadMax: yes, it still had the .def extension, I had even resaved with “et_entities.def”.

@ Thore: thx, didn’t know that, I did notice the funny kinda fonts it has in the Notepad version  . And I haven’t stopped mapping so far.
