Techland Goes Hands-on with Brink

A new story entry has been added:
[drupal=730]Techland Goes Hands-on with Brink[/drupal]

A few weeks ago, Evan Narcisse from Time Magazine’s Techland blog stopped by the Splash Damage offices for a whole day of playing Brink. He’s since returned to his Techlair and put together his thoughts and impressions. Here’s a slice:
While other first-person shooters will be vying for gamers’ thumbs in 2011, no game next year will look like Brink. The characters look lived in, with pockmarks, scars and receding hairlines all among the options for customization. And that customization’s amongst the best I’ve ever seen in any game in recent memory. Sections of the game world - a giant ship called the Ark - harbors layers of corroding metal laid over each other in patchwork fashion. Several weeks ago, I spent the better part of a day playing Brink with the folks at Splash Damage in their studio outside of London. I came away very impressed with what’s going into the title. It’s the anti-Halo: scuffed-up, grimy and funky.
Sounds like Evan had a great time. Head over to Techland for the full preview.
In addition, Evan also spent some time with Game Director Paul ‘Locki’ Wedgwood and Creative Director Richard ‘Rahdo’ Ham, quizzing them about Splash Damage and Brink. Multiplayer and social gaming are the big topics covered there, with plenty of light being shed on both. Interested? Check out the interview over here.

I didn’t know the resistance was trying to leave (which they are, according to that preview). I just thought they wanted the ‘elites’ to share the resources etc.

While any news is good news with Brink, I kinda feel like if you’ve read one preview, you’ve read em all. It’s almost like they cut and pasted. Ah well.

Yeah I found that a bit puzzling, not sure what’s stopping them from leaving, plenty of boats and stuff that could be made into boats and why would the security stop them from leaving as surely less people on the ark is a good thing no?

It’s good to know that Brink is an innovative shooter that tries to blend multi-and singleplayer, rewards teamplay and has a SMART movement system.

lol i thought the same thing…

Ed Stern mentioned in an interview that they can’t leave because the Security/Founders will not let them. He says one reason is because it is a waste of resources for them to leave, but he also hints at them having “ulterior motives.” He mentions it at 3:25.

I was under the impression they didn’t want them to leave because there goes some of the workforce keeping the Ark afloat (and keeping the social elite in the life they’re accustomed).

Oh come on. Playing the game for the better part of day and not having to say more than any other reviewer who got the 15 minutes hands-on? :frowning:

I guess that review is actually more or less copy pasted from others. What happened is that he got a beta key and spends all his time playing the game instead of doing any work (because it’s that awesome obviously).

A little bit boring…sorry.

Maybe we keep seeing the same reviews because that’s all that the PR department allows to be printed?
