Teamplay "A Matter of Class" in New Brink Trailer

Not sure what other instances of complaining you’re referring too … all I am is excited to see some more footage.

I assume I’m not the only one either.

Look let me apologize. All I mean is SD isn’t going to make a walkthrough for you when the game’s out. Plenty of people will be on youtube doing it for them.

Right now they are probably stressed to the max with production.

And all things considered (like the small size of the development team and large scale of the project) the video is acceptable. And we should appreciate whatever media they release to us.

(Jess Alon) #103

Look for videos from PAX. That’s probably the closest you’ll get before release. The next 2 or 3 videos that release will most likely be about mission objectives, additional abilities, and then the last one will probably showcase the last of the outfits they put together. So it’ll most likely be strictly a customization trailer. It’ll be hard to JUST showcase only SMART in a trailer. But it’s possible.

(Seyu) #104

If only the vast number of people finding faults in it on the various gaming blogs were this reasonable, but they are not. One look at the trailer and people began denouncing it as a TF2 clone.

simple minds find simple faults, SD hasn’t made a game for simple minds

(BioSnark) #106

They’re trying.

I’m not one of the people who care much about this, mainly because I’m not getting a cut of the profits, but I’d think it’s the publisher’s job to advertise the game.
What’s the point of even being able to bring that up on screen like that when you can use the numberpad?

Also Brink’s “wheel” changes based on the mission status and what’s happening in the field… you can’t expect it to be some weird menu system. The wheel can fill in and it’s easy to use. And once you learn what the icons mean you can probably access it in a second without reading anything. So what’s wrong with the wheel?
lol, it’s practically the same thing as Brink’s wheel. This is a context menu as well, it changes depending on what you are aiming at (see the “attack this target” in the middle, that’s because it’s pointed at an enemy vehicle, that could be “I need a medic” if it was pointed at a spawnhost or other things). the options around the edges are common vsays (can’t remeber if they change or not). I guess the point is you don’t need to remember any numbers, you just need to remember one button (context button), the menu pops up, you move your mouse in a specific direction and left click. For the default action you don’t even need to move the mouse, point at the thing, bring up the conext menu, and click.

Like Horse said, it’s a radial wheel just like Brink’s, the default action is just surrounded by vsays instead of missions. btw, some of those vsays do things ("I need a vehicle drops a vehicle, you can see the recharge on it too).

Keep in mind in the regular vsay menu some of these things could be a couple levels deep, so you have to press more than one button to get to them.

All that said I pretty much forgot the thing was there, I never use it, just use VoIP. I had to go back and look at what I had it bound to in order to get the screenshot.

I didn’t even use it before ETQW had VoIP (it was added in a patch) I had all my common vsays bound to specific keys (context sensitive binding helped with that, you could have the same button do different vsays depending on what class you were). The vsays were very handy for comminicating to your team, i would run out of spawn on valley as an engineer and hit a key and say “Deploying an APT”, then hit another and say “we need an AVT”. I always wanted one I could point at the objective and say “we need smoke you a**hole covies get off the hill and come down here and help!”, at least we had “We need a radar!”.
Nope, that’s console thing
Ahhh ETQW on pc did have a radial menu…it was pretty handy imo. I was so sad when i heard this game had no V-says :frowning:

^auto-vsays

(Striker92) #110

i sitll want to be able to say “owned” after i t-bag someone :frowning:

(BioSnark) #111

I would have happily left some of those qw vsays on the cutting room floor

(Striker92) #112

i think in Aust gaming, atleast in pubs(well atleast for me anyway :D) theres a lot of tounge in check humour and tom-foolery…like did u know when you V-say “you’re welcome” it kinda sounds like “your whale cum” lol

I quite liked it, it showed off a variety of game features from body types and customisation to weapons, environments and of course class objectives. So from a content standpoint, it was great. What does bother me is two things.

The first is that I hope this is old footage and not something recorded last week because it still looks rough. When the guy revives himself… that was painful to watch, it’s not something I would expect from a PC game. Also the guns bounce back and forth (recoil) waaaaaaaay too much. Also in regards to disguising and the enemy body disappearing, I’d personally like to see both of them phase in/out more (think of the spy disguising in TF2). I know it’s supposed to be quick, but I’d just personally like to see something else there other then an I Dream of Genie moment…

Second: I hope (and suspect) that this was console footage. Something about the look of it was just (as I mentioned above) rough and … not smooth. I’d like to think that not only has the game voerall become much smoother, but that with much better hardware animations and whatever else are much, much smoother on the PC.

Lastly I hope this video is followed up with some more in-depth coverage of other features that really show what seperates it from other games… most noteable I’m seeing “TF2 clone” and “TF3?” comments being thrown around, but m y understanding is that compared to BRINK, TF2 looks like a death match game.

(Striker92) #114

Comparison of TF2 to brink is my most hated of things at this moment…its has to be said that compared to ETQW tf2 had barely any teamplay value to me at all…TF2 sucked in comparison imo

(Humate) #115

fondatori bugiardi imo

People are idiots… and they think because it’s not “gritty” and “realistic” it’s somehow trying to be team fortress. They probably haven’t watched anything about the art style and have no sense of style themselves. And they want all video games to look the same until one day it’s just photorealism with no creativity.
