Team Spawn Order/Position Ranking.

Currently the spawns work pretty much in a random way…
You can spawn at any of the possible spawn points in that spawn area…

What I would like to see is each spawn point having a preference system built in that would allow heavier Mercs to spawn closer to the front of spawn than the lighter Mercs. Meaning if heavy Mercs spawn with light Mercs at the same time the heavy Merc would be closer to the spawn exit. However if it is only light Mercs spawning they would spawn at the front of spawn.

The reason for this is to help try and keep the whole team closer together just outside of spawn and allow better grouping in general. In theory this would reduce the amount of single file lines into the enemy, ammo and in future buffs to be handed out and in general higher chance of revives and health in fights.

I try and think about it as “where do the mercs cross lines” and if a heavy Merc spawns at the back of spawn and a light spawns at the front… The answer is never… I don’t think anyone would deny that heavier Mercs in general should lead the charge!

A quick couple of examples of what happens if this was to become a thing…

Terminal…
You can have all the attacking team Mercs “meet” just under the pipe.

Underground…
All Mercs would make it into the elevator.

Trainyard…
All Mercs would be grouped while entering either of the houses.

Bridge Final Objective…
Would all reach the entrance around the same time.

I would like to also mention I know that this seems to go against the idea of heavy and light Mercs being faster / slower… However, I believe having these differences in combat is much more important in combat than they are during travel.

this is goode!!!

This is all good, but the heavy ‘frontline’ mercs tend to be slower and struggle to keep up with the faster light troops who are generally support (Proxy is one exception). Makes it hard to group up for an attack, esp. on initial spawn. Its only as good as the speed of the slowest merc. Placing the slow guys at the front will just get them overtaken / cause road rage for the speed merchants :).

If you are talking spacing it out so that everyone meets at X (on re-read it seems this is what you mean) this would be good but it means creating dead space in the spawn area.

Sticking together is still optional of course.

What helps though, is if the faster mercs can directly see what type of slower mercs start out with. As they’re the ones who have more options available.

Fair enough but it takes quite a bit of analysing before you figure out who’s with you in that spawn wave. What Pixeltwitch suggests gives the players a more visceral input.

The effect will be very small of course, we’re talking about a few steps forward and a few steps left. But fast players spawning behind slow players is a nice and subtle way of making teams that don’t communicate work together better.
