Team Deathmatch (TDM)- Any point in playing a class other than Medic?

When playing TDM, is there any point in playing any other class other than medic? The ability to self pack appears to be so much more important than anything the other classes have to offer. I’m not a huge fan of TDM, but right now the game mode looks like it could use some love if most classes are to be valid choices. In most TDM game modes I’ve played there is either full health regen or armor and health to pick up. Right now, I don’t think DB TDM has either and I think it’s worse for it.

The following things are important for the discussion:
-health regen only goes up to 50% (I think this is still correct)
-I have only played low player numbers TDM, high player numbers could change things.
-Tried to purposely use classes other than medic multiple times and I always fragged more as a medic.
-Weapons and movement mechanics are currently not fully polished and things could change drastically in the future.

The few times I’ve played TDM, teams actually stuck together and moved together. When it happens like that, all the classes still play important roles IMO. You can block flanks with turrets/mines, hand out ammo, spot enemies, blah blah.

If people were just ramboing, then I’m sure medic would be the best.

Medic’s machine gun is pretty weak, at least in my hands. Shotgun is strong but no range and I suck at aiming it.

Medics are great when paired with other players like assaults, because they can revive a downed player and deny the point for the other team though.

I played some TDM the other day and had some thoughts around it. This might be bad game design to suggest this but should TDM or DM be setup differently for this game? I want to see DM in Dirty Bomb but should the classes be tweaked differently from the other game mode or would that add class confusion to the players?

Would it be a good idea to have different classes just for TDM and DM or limit to only certain classes?

I’m sure I don’t have the answers and I love DM so my view is probably different than most here.

I agree that perhaps tweaked classes for different modes could be be beneficial. Maybe even remove class abilities altogether for TDM, and only have weapon loadouts. Maybe give each player an item that heals a percentage of their health, with a cooldown after each use.
