team_CTF_redflag/blueflag using .ase modell?

(Drakir) #1

Im in a deep problem, i thought that i could use a .ase model for my team_CTF_blueflag. But it dont appear ingame.

So i guess its not possible even though .ase models is browsable in Radiant for that type of entity.

So if i cannot get hold of a modeller that can make me a model real wuick i may have to redo the whole endthingy in the ready for BETA tests project “north pole”…

So please if you can help me, contact me here via a PM or just mess via via MSN at lindgrenrikard@hotmail.com

Well i took it into my own hands and downloaded Milkshape and made my “Star” model myself! Doesnt look too bad, but i could definitly use a better one!

I can convert your model to an md3 if you’d like. Just PM me a link to it and I’ll do it tonight.

Only the compiler (q3map2) supports ase, lwo etc. The game only supports md3, mdc, mdm/mdx (and likely still mds).

Tnx for the replies!
PM´d you hummer…

Pretty dumb that Radiant can find “ase” models for entitys that cant use them.

It all depends on what you are using the ASE for in the editor, as brushwork rotated at cool angles then its perfect!

What i meant with “dumb” is that most other programs, cant open a fileformat it cant use for that type of thing u want to create.

I know Radiant is opensource and not perfect in any way, but a simple filter for filetypes on certain entitys would be nice.

Also found out the hardway that u cannot use both “Scriptname” and “Targetname” on a team_CTF_blueflag/redflag.

Only “Scriptname” otherwize the model wont show up, so my guess is that u can target the team_CTF_xxxflag for some reason i cant imagine.

Yep, that one surprised me too. It certainly does not make any sense as all other entities can cope with a “targetname” key. Its a strange codey thing …

I have just spent 1 hours trying to get the model to show up in the game. Then I remembered this post, and came here. Sure enough - “no targetname”. That’s the solution. Thanks guys!

I wonder. Did you mean “can not target” there, Drakir? That is what you must have ment.

This lack of targetname is perplexing. And it leads to the following: If a team_ctf_redflag cannot have a targetname, it cannot be targeted, as you point out above. An example: You cannot use the “setstate yourtargetname invisible”, to hide the team_ctf_redflag.
:frowning:

This is an interesting mapping quesion: How can I hide a team_ctf_redflag and team_ctf_blueflag? And have them appear when I want them to show up. (I mean, if I wanted to make an ordinary ET objective map without the aid of shrub’s new ctf function). Anyone?

I guess I could make a box around it, made of script_movers. Hiding it. Then, via script, remove box. Ta ta! There is it! Go grab it soldier! But is this the only solution? It is kind of messy. In real ctf (Q and UT), you have one flag, which reappear when it is captured.

Box bu!
Flag jawohl!

A though would be to spawn it later than at map start. Dunno of this works or not. Like when u capture one flag u spawn the next.
