Tank path

(Timothy) #1

Hello people,

I’ve recently started mapping again, after I lost interested and had other things to do… Now here is my problem: I’ve created a small spline path for my tank, but when the tank moves to the last spline, it suddenly disappears and moves to the center of the map. The last spline has no target defined, only a targetname (so the previous point knows where it is heading, obviously).

Am I missing something here? My moving script consists of this:

followspline 0 spl_truck_1 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_2 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_3 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_4 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_5 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_6 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_7 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_8 100 wait length 304
followspline 0 spl_truck_9 100 wait length 304

As there are only 9 splines.

Thanks in advance,
VWOer

Add one more spline in your map but don’t script it. It works this way on core maps  Don’ t ask me why x)

Or remove the last spline table in your script

Works, thanks!

No problem

Try to base your script/map on the existing maps, the sources are released, you can grab there from here:

Good luck

Yep, I already have the pak0.pk3 opened here to rip some of GoldRush’ tank scripts  Thanks for the tip though!

I added you on Xfire btw, if you don’t mind

(Mateos) #6

By map sources, I mean the original .map/.pcx files of the 6 default maps

Added you, I don’t mind

(Timothy) #7

Hehe, I know what you mean  I will probably have a little more problems understanding the scripting language and it’s techniques ^^

(Mateos) #8

It will come with time  Myself I’m looking for how to make the electric lines you can see for instance in Transmitter with patches.

Scripting is logic, you have stickied threads with a lot of tuts on this forum section  And I go some in my favs, so if you need help or post or feel free to ask me on Xf

Make patch, apply texture, press shift+s to deform the texture (because it’s a patch)

I don’t know what kind of wires transmitter has.

I know how to make little patches, see Nordwind 2 (Ramps, electric lines as textures, road), but it’s the cylindric electric stuff I would like to achieve… Will try it someday.

Okay… I’ve finally got much of the tank stuff working (prefab from Gold Rush), but now my tank clip brushes are turned about 90 degrees, the same problem I had with my old tank. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Mateos) #12

Have you copied the entire clipping brushes, the origin cube included?

(Timothy) #13

Yep, I did. (+ this text so I get more than 10 chars :p)

(Tardis) #14

make sure all your entity names are looked at and you don’t have a _1 or 1 eg targetname = truck1 it should be targetname = truck on the end or it will not match the game script …

as this can happen when copy and paste from one map into other one .

(Timothy) #15

Fixed… Apparently the game doesn’t like turning origin brushes :stuck_out_tongue:

(Mateos) #16

It has to be a perfect cube, and all faces with the textures origin, that’s all I know  No turning or any manipulation

(Timothy) #17

Hm well, I know I should be able to rotate my tank object so it looks okay in Radiant (while it shouldn’t affect the gameplay, as the game will just put it at the start location)… but when I rotate it, the clip brush is not in the right position in-game.

(Mateos) #18

You don’t need to rotate it in the editor  Just see Gold Rush

Look at the script as well, the spawn subtable of these entities more exactly, there are the rotate stuff I think
