Yes ETQW server files were/are free to download and as Nail said are console only. I would expect the same from Brink, so users will be able to host their own dedi servers. This will be downloadable separate from Steam.

FYI, all (steamworks) games don’t support the offline mode

I just went offline mode and ran L4D2 just fine.

they don’t mention any exceptions here:

Orly? (+idiots chars for a stupid forum admin)

Please note that you must connect to the Steam Network and test each of the games you would like to use in Offline Mode at least once to set up your account and configure Offline Mode on your machine.

(Nail) #26

yes, you have to validate your account, but then you can play offline, or so I read it. I still see no mention of a Steamworks game that doesn’t work offline once verified

I know certain games that require SteamWorks also work when run without Steam even loaded. I’ve played L4D2 via it’s EXE just fine. So using the dev console to connect to a local server should be fine I would think. The only issue I can think is character progression. Is it stored in SteamCloud or locally? Most games that store it in the cloud also store a cached local copy so hopefully it’ll be ok.
