Surfaceparm landmine, q3map2, dotproduct

Hi,

It’s been a while since I posted. Shame on me.
Took a bit of a break.

I’m having this problem,
and didn’t really find any decent answer through google or search in the forum.

When i compile, i get the error:

  • WARNING: Unknown surfaceparm: “landmine”

Well very logical and meaningful, of course the land mines wont work on the terrain.
But I use the same shader in another map, but the mines work there.

So the problem is the compiler. Which one should I take?

I already used 2.5.15 & 2.5.17. My brains memory card isn’t working enough, cause I would probably remember which one I used before :smiley:

I would like dotproduct. So I can’t effort using an older compiler I think.

You can ignore the warning. As far as I can see ‘surfaceparm landmine’ shader param is not implemented in the GPL code - see infoParms[] in tr_shader.c. I don’t know if this is just unfinished code or wanted on purpose. There is a surface flag SURF_LANDMINE which is used but never set! #-)

You can plant mines in the game if the flags SURF_GRASS, SURF_SNOW or SURF_GRAVEL are set for the surface.

This is an interesting issue: Many original shader definitions (search: ‘surfaceparm landmine’ in pk0/scripts) are using ‘surfaceparm landmine’ in combination with ‘surfaceparm gravelsteps’ or ‘surfaceparm grasssteps’. These set valid landmine surfaceflags so and I think ‘surfaceparm landmine’ can be removed from any shader definition. On the other hand an option to set SURF_LANDMINE in infoParms[] with the ‘landmine’ keyword might grant mappers the explicit control over the mines. ET: L might fix that.

Update: I think we should better not ignore the warning … surfaceparm landmine is valid for ET!

I’ve realized the bsp also sets shader surfparms and found the code snippet where SURF_LANDMINE is set. I suppose upper q3map2 versions have lost the ET support of landmines.

2.5.16 is the latest official build afaik from ydnar, and no problem here with landmines, fyi :slight_smile:
