Supressive Fire

(Surkov E Jaeger) #1

How effective do you think it is in brink? Do you use it often? What would you say is an ideal weapon for it?

(wolfnemesis75) #2

Suppressive fire is important in Brink, especially when you want to stay on the move towards an objective, or just keep the other team at bay. The clock is often the true enemy because of respawning. Plant an HE charge, you mostly need to delay the other team. Killing them, downing them, forcing them to retreat, are all ways to get the job done. Suppressive fire is what Turrets can do. Most of the guns are good for suppressive fire. Depends on your style and body type. I use the SMG weapons. And a bayonet to suppress folk for good measure with a slide strike.

A volley of EZnades will suppress enemies and keep them under cover if they know what’s good for them :stuck_out_tongue: most of the times anyway.

(Mustang) #4

I do pre-fire, but supressive fire, nope

(FireWorks) #5

Eh suppressive fire means shooting for the sake of shooting right? If so, absolutly a no go. Shoot to kill and kill a lot on the right places. Suppressive fraggin is a lot more effective

Recently I’ve running medic using a rockstedi with a bayonet and glalactic smg using a drum mag that I often use for supressive fire.
I’m seeing some pretty radical varience in it’s effectiveness though. So what do you think are the most important factors in supressing an enemy team? I mean that in realation to team working and weapon mechanics.

Well, Supressive fire is meant to make the enemy keep his head down. So I wouldn’t really call it shooting for the sake of shooting.

Just make sure you have a soldier to hand out the bullets.

On Founders Tower last night, we had two heavies (I was soldier, other guy was Engy) with buffed Gotlungs and 600 rounds suppressing the main hallway at the first Obj with a medic behind us boosting non stop. The other team’s only hope was to go either the side way through the tiny near-balcony which was covered with mines or go via the ComPost far-balcony way. We would let our team know about the guys going the side way as we could spot them, and we had some teammates watching our backs if the enemies went the ComPost way.

Anyone foolish enough to try to get past us in the main hallway got cut down. Of course, this was in Pub Standard against players of equal or lesser skill. If we were in Comp mode, I’m sure some ubernerd light Soldier would hop around like a spider monkey on meth, then grenade-shoot both of us in the face and kill us in 1 second.

LOL. Awesome.

Awesome because it’s true.

Maybe if my heavy had some roller blades, we could move a bit faster. This concept art never made it into the game, I guess:

(Apoc) #12

Literally my exact role in the team xD

XD I always get that on google images, looks like Disney has beaten SD into the title.

Anyway, I only do suppressive fire If I’m transferring between covers, or while executing a tactical retreat(a.k.a. ‘parkouring’ away like a pussy XP). Often, I get to an optimal position and give support fire for my buddies from there.

(SinDonor) #14

Did you go to quakecon this year? I missed the Brink matches.

(Baiken6609) #15

Definitely the best way to keep bots away atleas is the caltrop grenade. They won’t walk anywhere near it unless forced to

(mortis) #16

Caltrops are very effective at slowing/deterring enemy movement, I have found…

Launches a volley of grenades at RabidAnubis

Suppressing fire can be extremely advantageous… especially when aimed at choke points and/or high ground areas (to keep snipers “at bay”).

The chinzor and gotlung excel at this… and it’s one of the few things my fatty can do better than lights/mediums.

(Codine) #19

Suppressing fire is useless half of the time since weapons don’t kill fast in Brink. Especially when you throw in regenerating health into the equation.

(SinDonor) #20

Suppressing fire from two heavies with buffed Gotlungs is pretty effective. We had the main hallway at the first Obj on Founder’s Tower covered with sf, so most of the attacking players were smart enough to go the other two ways (back balcony and front balcony)
