Supply Drops (Not a merc, just an ability)

(JJMAJR) #1

I opened up this thread because people think that waiting for a supply drop is not worth the ammo it gives.

Here, I given some ideas on how supply drops would be helpful:

  1. You don’t have to go in close vicinity with a group of people to give them ammo.

Why is this helpful? Say your team has a sniper that is doing well, but needs ammunition. If you don’t want to walk over to them, give them ammo, and return to the frontlines, this ability comes in handy. If you are trying to give your frontline players some ammo, this ability is weaker than a standard ammo station. A supply drop allows the player to last longer on the frontlines if they want to support their sniper at the same time.

  1. It doesn’t have to be a small amount of ammo, nor does it have to give ammo slowly like an ammo station. Nor does it have to take longer than the setup time of an ammo station.

How long does that thing prop up? 2 seconds? If a supply drop takes 3 seconds to completely drop its ammo, then gives 8 ammo packs that fully restore players’ ammo upon pickup, you still replenish friendly ammo faster than an ammo station.

  1. It’s just ammo.

Imagine how lighter Stoker could be if he doesn’t have to carry all those ammo packs or the ammo station around, instead just a radio. He could get a better armor/speed ratio if he switches what kinds of weapons he uses.

Now I hope everyone can stop ridiculing my idea.

  1. Sniper should come to you then if they want ammo. I’m not going to leave the front to give them an ammo pack, nor would I throw a smoke grenade or something in their face to call in a drop.

  2. You still have to consider the time it takes for the drop to come in, and throwing regular ammo packs would be faster than a supply drop. Also, supply drops only last a little bit. An ammo station though? Lasts as long as it doesn’t get destroyed.

  3. Apppearance=/= functionality. By that logic, Stoker should be slower than Skyhammer because he carries 2 whole ammo stations on his legs.

And you still haven’t mentioned the fact that a supply drop can’t be used indoors. If I wanted to call in chopper support, I’d prefer it to shoot bullets and missiles than drop a bundle of glorified ammo packs from the sky. An ammo station does a supply drop’s job better.

  1. If you can save a sniper the inconvenience of going to you in order to get ammo, you are more of a help to him than a guy that only goes on the frontlines. You stay on the front, while the sniper can keep supporting you from a safe distance. A win for both of you.

One could call it in like an artillery designator instead of with a smoke grenade in order to increase the range at which you can give out ammo. Making it called in through a grenade only makes it a glorified ammo pack that doesn’t work indoors, which truly is the definition of sucking.

  1. I’d like to keep it a happy medium between an ammo pack and an ammo station in terms of how it’s used. Tons of ammunition if given the time of day, but still faster than an ammo station to deploy, at the cost of longevity.

I guess it would be more ideal to have it descend and break within the same set-up time as an ammo station instead coming from this information, since I didn’t make a comparison to ammo packs.

  1. I guess by the same logic Kira would be slower than both Arty and Skyhammer. I was making a comparison between Stoker now and stoker after the changes. Not between every merc in the fire support category.

  2. It can’t be used indoors. Yet it can be used to help a sniper with less inconvenience and inefficiency to both you and the sniper in question. It could be considered a buff in this sense, since fire support classes are the most critical help for snipers due to the snipers’ severely limited ammunition.

So now you use an artillery designator to call in a bunch of ammo packs from the sky? Seems like it would have an awfully long CD, so I wouldn’t use that for a single sniper who wants ammo. If they want ammo, they’re coming to my ammo station, finding an ammo cache on the map, or moving closer and spamming V22. And it still can’t be used indoors.

Like many others have said before me, I can’t see any reason why a supply drop should be in a fast paced game like Dirty Bomb. The same could be said about ammo stations, but those are for holding a position and not topping off allies.

How many ammo packs do you think a team could burn through? It can’t be so long that it won’t be impossible to keep your team well-stocked.

Just make the CD 12-15 seconds. Skyhammer and Arty have more than enough ammo for the entire team on an individual basis.

yeah, no. can’t work indoors, basically making it completely useless in too many situations, and takes too long.

in any case, i occasionally leave a sniper an ammo station(usually on first point in underground as defenders) when i play stoker simply because i get a constant flow of support xp, though more often than not, fuck that guy i need the station to block a door, to hide behind, and to provide ammo to friendlies that are actually directly supporting me, snipers miss half their shots anyway
