Talk about launching the game to new heights of awarement…other games have launched commercials during popular sporting events. Again, I know it’s probably too late even if they wanted to and the cost would be ridiculous even for a 30 second spot. Still would be cool though.
Superbowl commercial...It's probably too late and expensive but
I think this would double the cost of the game. And it wouldn’t really reach internationally. I think Brink could have used a lot more advertising honestly. But in a few months after release the game’s quality will give it a lot of buzz which will make up for it.
I’m sure investing money into developing the game instead of promoting will yield same or even better results(results as in longetivity which == 1/money earned).
is any promotion campaign for BRINK ?
just few dedicated web site talking about it …
The lack of both.
The very late stroyent offensive with the cute website and videos was nice. But gamers need to be bombarded with oversized Youtube banners.
in my opinion everything works quite well so far for brink and SD, due to a few signs:
a) the HC community has already formed, they are regulars on:
- inside communities such as IGN, gametrailers, rockpapersshotgun, etc.
- expositions: EGE, E3, GC, etc.
as long as SD are present they WILL know and form if there’s potential. just look at us…
b) the mass market, is consisting of intuitive buyers, they get hooked by reviews, ads, word of mouth. this does not necessarily mean they buy on release date. but they are the rats tail which may keep the game in best seller lists. here advertisements are, undeniably, a factor. however too long stretched exposure is not necessarily good when there’s nothing to give: e.g. demo. here i agree 100% the bombardment has to come the closer the release date comes.
c) maybe you remembered the steam-wish-list campaign, where you could create a wishlist. daily winners received their wishlist games for free. between COD-BLOPS and other high profile games, Brink was listed quite high too.
therefore my hopes are high and i’m certain this is bethesda’s strategy.
imagine they would’ve started spending before they stalled the release date for a year…
Actually it was Activision’s fault. They actually DECIDED not to support the game, or even promote it. Remember when the last patch Splash Damage did was on their own time and money?
Seriously, do [most of] you guys pay any attention to the rest of the world or other games? Dead Space 2 ads only started appearing a couple of weeks ago. The COD:BLOPS TV ads only aired a week or two before launch. The main marketing push will come in early May. April at the absolute earliest. It’s how the system works.
Both of those games you mentioned were sequels and already had a following and a blip on the radar.
Brink is a new IP, bringing new and innovative features to gameplay, and developed by a studio that is practically unheard of in the console community.

True, but that doesn’t change that the main marketing push will be in May, right before the game launches.
Maybe they are planning “Big Bang” commercials campaign before game release. who knows… or maybe strategy is, good game will make good feedback between gamers communities and brink infectation will spread faster that way.
