Suicide rush repairs and escorts: They really do work

(DeadAlive) #1

Disclaimer: I’m probably preaching to the choir on the forums, but it might help a few.

While you can’t generally predict the end of a round, 99% of the time there is no need for these pathetic failures, such as a team never repairing the EV the first time, or not even escorting it half way.

There have been numerous times where just for fun, and experimentation, I have suicide rep’ed an EV, over and over, with a non-augmented merc, and actually gotten it done, even after being killed within 2-3 seconds each time.

If one person can do it, with no augment, then the whole team rushing in ought to be able to work magic. IOW, there is no excuse for colossal failures, with the exception of a well stacked team.

So, that leads to my alternate thread title: Tired of repairing and escorting EV with my medic

So many rounds lost early on because no one repairs, and even worse, once it’s repaired it just sits there…unless I rush in with my medic and do it.

{edit: I should add that I do not generally set out to repair with my Medic, I usually only do this after doctoring up my team for awhile only to watch them all ignore the objective. At that point, I take a whack at the obj myself}

This also leads to some suggestions that I will make in another thread, regarding that lack of objective status communication in the game. The fact is, some players, including me, have failed to escort because in the heat of the battle, we don’t know it has been repaired, or have forgotten. The single voice announcement is not enough, imo.

Just yesterday our team of attackers on bridge didn’t have a single objective specialist between us. So I just snuck straight in as phantom and just started repairing the EV. As the whole enemy team was busy smashing us into the ground, and as the repair rate is so unnoticeably slow, I got a good 20 seconds on repairing before anyone even noticed that I had nearly finished. This strategy definitely works if you can put aside your own safety for the success of the team.

You’re assuming people are going to be doing the whole teamwork thing. Lots of times it’s just random chaos.

As to all rushing objective, I’ve successfully held off / killed an entire team coming to rep the EV on Bridge with Rhino. It’s not just rushing objective together, it’s playing smart.

I have so many times done this. My main goal on bridge is to flank the enemies. Predict where the mercs will be, where any of the easy ones ill be guarding so I can remove them as a threat and then repair while no one is paying attention. Surely no one is bold enough to repair in plain sight and 9 times out of 10 I can get the EV to at least 50 - 75% repaired in one go until the enemy team realises.

The other day, we were being spawn camped. So instead of moaning how the enemy was lame camping us, I took the initiative to just bolt it with a Proxy. All the enemy team is in our spawn mowing down my friendlies and I am just sitting there, minding my own business, looking at the pretty butterflies as I repaired the EV from 0 - 100%. Even got it a fair distance before the enemy team arrived :smiley:

In situations like these, phantom is a god send. You don’t truly appreciate invisibility until your squaring down with your pliers out, happily taking advantage of your enemies ignorance. Stealth repairs 4 lyfe.

Agreed, especially on Bridge. With differences in loading/spawn times a fast moving Proxy can get the EV repaired without putting herself in real danger. If nothing else at least it adds those much needed extra minutes to the watch.

What I have found especially fun to do is act as a decoy drawing some the defenders away while my teammates push the other side and engage the remaining defenders as some one repairs. By the time my pursuers kill me it is already too late… I loved that match.

That’s how ~50% of the time the EV gets repaired in pubs. Defenders feel cocky and needlessly push forward and someone sneaks past them.

It’s really funny when my entire team time and time again runs straight over the barricade towards the attackers spawn and I’m the only one who is near the EV and I constantly have my hands full because someone always slips through. I’m basically fucked if I’m not playing Stoker.
