Suggestions, y'all!

So, I’ve been playing DB for a while now and I’ve decided to gather some suggestions, or whatever you wanna call them, I’d like to share :penguin:

1.) RESPAWN TIMER
DB is a fast-paced game with no time to take a breather in-between all the shooting. You can’t just stand still, because you WILL die. I’ve been wondering that because the game is so fast and all gamers do need a tiny break in between, is that why the god damn respawn timer is so long. 22 seconds or something like that? That is insane. The match can easily be won or lost in that time. Is there a proper reason why it’s so long or what? Is it because of the match types or what? 22 seconds in a fast paced FPS feels like a lifetime!

2.) TOXIC PEOPLE
Now, I’ve seen my fair share of gaming communities and the players playing this game are so freaking salty. They bash their team-mates who are trying their best and calling them awful names (seriously vile, awful, censor-worthy names!). It’s awful to listen to that all the time. People try their best but get nothing but crap thrown at them - real fair and mature. I wish the community would be moderated a little bit better. These people are poison. Seriously, poison. And the best part are the people who apparently report you if you seem “suspicious” aka actually know how to play the game. If I hit you through the smoke, that doesn’t mean that I’m cheating, that means I’ve learned it from my previous experiences in this game or some other game. Ridiculous what salty jealousy makes you do, apparently.

3.) MISCELLANEOUS
I wish I could just press a button and mute everyone and the same with chat - just press a button and I don’t have to read salty people complaining about their team-mates when they themselves, do absolutely nothing. And yes, I know all the information in the game is shared like that, but when that channel is mostly used to bash other people, I can’t be the only one wishing for a button to hide the chat. (Unless there is one already and I haven’t found it? Hmm…)

All and all, this game has it’s good stuff and it’s bad stuff. I love the characters and their attitude! I do love the fast paced take on things and the rush you get from popping those sweet head shots or calling on an air-strike in the middle of a group of enemies. Some stuff I don’t like and I just have to deal with it. I’ve shared my thoughts now and hopefully I’m not alone with all of them.

But oh boy, do I hate to love and love to hate this game! Peace out, peeps! :stroggbanana:

  1. Respawn timer is fine imo. I haven’t seen many competitive matches, but I would assume pro teams/players monitor these timers during the game in order to make the biggest impact. i.e. if a squad knows it takes 10 seconds to clear a room, hit them 10 seconds before respawn resets. If they fail, retreat on the push and try again after. It’s a good reward for strategy/tactics. 22 seconds is basically if you’re getting spawn-camped. That’s an issue with bad sportsmanship, not game design.

  2. It’s a free to play MMO, and plus it’s an FPS, so we’re bound to get toxic players. However, I’m not excusing toxicity entirely. I think (just my opinion) there’s one obvious problem: ranked mode and its impact on the tiny playerbase. Before ranked, most of the community was pretty casual (at least from what I’ve seen). Now players have played ranked, the atmosphere is a bit more competitive in general, and it doesn’t mesh well with the constant stream of new players coming into the game.

Here’s an opinion most players share: If you don’t like the way someone is talking or playing, ally or enemy, mute them, get better (against enemies), or hop servers. Toxicity is a problem in every MMO, I’m not saying it shouldn’t be addressed, but it’s the reality and any attempts to address it are a gamble on the playerbase. It’s not a new concept and yet so many companies (the biggest one being Riot) have failed to truly deal with the problem effectively. Communication toxicity is a juvenile issue - just mute them. Gameplay toxicity (or whatever you want to call it) is the real problem, like griefers and leavers and otherwise people sabotaging the game for their own team. Gameplay toxicity is especially bad when it comes to ranked, when players are intentionally ruining a game for their teammates. Sticks and stones vs. words - let’s not make Dirty Bomb into a politically correct anti-bullying sharing circle (hyperbole, but a relevant metaphor).

Personally, I would rather have more quickchat options so players would be too busy navigating quickchat to type. If quickchat was simpler/more varied/less filled with junk like “Sarcastic” “The enemy is weakened!”, it could replace all chat completely.

  1. 100% agree. Mute all is good. I actually find “mute enemy” to be the most conducive for teamwork, especially in competitive matches. I’ve played a lot of MOBAs, and there is nothing good that comes from “all chat”. It doesn’t prevent in-team fighting, but you’re effectively reducing the potential to “argue in chat” by half.

Somewhat relevant, apparently DB has named servers, so you should look into that as I assume they are player-moderated.

Basically, whenever I see suggestions, I tend to agree with all of them at their core, because they have good intentions, especially these ones. Change is good, tweaking is good, even if it completely changes the game; but I would rather see most tweaks applied on multiple test servers (not too many to avoid fragmenting the already small playerbase) rather than introduced as “blanket” changes that affect every server, including ranked.

Firstly, hi and secondly, thanks for the reply that was surprisingly mature. Nothing against you, of course, my mind has just been clouded by the awful members of the community.

1.) You make a really good valid point about the competitive gameplay. That makes sense to me a bit more so maybe I won’t be as salty anymore haha!

2.) Competitive modes can be a “curse”, if you will. I do have to again agree with you on that. About the toxic people, somehow, personally for me, the muting is just never enough. I don’t wanna interact with them at all, depending of course how vile they actually are. I did try changing servers, only to end up playing three times with the same people. That was fun… not. But DB is beyond modest compared to something like CS:GO. I love that game but the community, literally everyone is absolutely awful. I hope not to make the game political but bullying should be addressed. Someone always gets hurt, one way or another. I know we can’t keep everyone save, but at least few would be nice.

3.) Actually, after writing this thread, I had a brilliant idea. GOOGLE! I went in there to see if there is a way to mute everyone. Turns out there is! It’s as simple as a freaking console command. That made me feel a thousand times better! If it wasn’t for that option, my DB gaming would minimized and I’d, once again, take a few longer breaks here and there.

You had some cool views about these “issues”, thanks for sharing them
